21 May 03 - 01:38 PM (#957071) Subject: Red Bull Stockport - Thursdays cancelled From: John Routledge Sorry to report that we are no longer welcome as singers at this otherwise lovely pub. The landlord after representation(s) from customer(s) has decided to keep local(s) happy by asking us to leave. Search is on for new premises. |

14 Jun 03 - 01:51 PM (#966926) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport - Thursdays cancelled From: GUEST,Peter Hood I was sorry to see the Song Carriers club go, the pub is very folk friendly and still hosts a singers/guest night every Monday. Also,on the second Wed. of the month there's a tunes session, with a lot of English tunes. Once a month on Sunday the Random Lurchers, a band with with acoustic guitars/mandola etc, play there. Occasional sessions on Saturdays and some other stuff also goes on. Brian the landlord is very supportive of the folk music in there as are most of the regulars. The previous post calling them locusts was a bit out of order as they contribute to the success of the other nights.Roy Bailey was the guest last Monday, the list of people who have performed in the Red Bull is very impressive. Why the Thursday night folded was due to several reasons, but I think it really didn't fit into the open bar format of the pub. Even the locals in a folk friendly pub like the Bull had problems with a full evening of unacommpanied singing. Terry Whelan was in the pub on Monday and was off to look at another venue, I hope it gets another room soon. Peter Hood |
16 Jun 03 - 01:50 PM (#967098) Subject: RE: Red Bull Stockport - Thursdays cancelled From: John Routledge Thanks for the background Pete. The Red Bull is indeed a first class pub - not many of that quality left. A new pub has indeed been found for Thursday nights. THE ARDEN ARMS behind ASDA Supermarket will start this Thursday. Will give directions asap in new thread. |
