I thought it would be technically very hard, but it isn't that bad. I find "Salty" much more difficult. Do any of you play this kind of stuff? Margo |

It is however closely related in structure to a polka and that is the most effective and common dance done to the tune. |

03 Oct 14 - 05:54 AM (#3665609) Subject: RE: Limerock- Do you play it? From: Jack Campin It's a reel, not a polka. Sounds like a distant relative of St Anne's Reel. It also sounds helluva difficult in the Johnny Gimble version, but I'm not a fiddler. Looking for the dots with Google, I didn't expect all that motor racing stuff. Is there a connection? |
03 Oct 14 - 12:02 PM (#3665738) Subject: RE: Limerock- Do you play it? From: GUEST,Arkie This is heard at quite a few fiddle contests and is attributed to a Texas fiddler. The version heard most frequently these days is related to an arrangement made by Benny Thomasson, a legendary Texas style fiddler who has been an influence on many younger fiddlers. A local Arkansas fiddler, Brandon Apple, does a particularly good version of this tune. Brandon has won several major fiddle contests and played for a time in Clint Black's band. This site has some information on the tune. Limerock |

I enjoyed Benny Thomasson's version, though I quickly covered my sensitive ears at the first high E. I agree with Darwin Long - no matter what 'legendary fiddlers' have done to it, it's a polka. I've made a MIDI of it to play on the piano, eliminating the variations I don't care for. |
