23 May 03 - 09:44 AM (#958184) Subject: BS: Oxford England Shark Tail House From: Kim C Several years ago - 15, to be exact - I took a side trip to Oxford on my college trip to England. On the way there, we passed a house which had a shark's tail sticking out of the roof. The tour guide told us it had caused a big hubbub in the town, but the owner was allowed to keep it for the time being. (no, of course it wasn't real) I had a vague recollection of having seen it in a tabloid or something at the time. My questions are - does anyone know what in the sam hill I'm talking about, and if so, is it still there? Cheers--- Kim |

Spent two summers there and frequently went by it...it is not too far from another wonderful sculptural piece at a movie theatre called Not the Moulin Rouge, which has a pair of women's legs clad in gaudy striped stockings and high heeled shoes jutting out... I will be in Oxford this coming week and will try to go by there again...not far from the city centre. I was told the shark tail sculpture was put up there by the owner and he still lives theer but that was a few years ago... peg |

(If still there.) It was outdone for a while by a guy in Croydon, who put up a marlin he had caught on his house (stuffed), was told to take it down by the council, and kept adding more and more stuff on and around the house - from an inflated Santa to a bright yellow tank (as in army, not water).
