09 Aug 98 - 04:10 AM (#34497) Subject: RE: Reynard the Fox From: BSeed Not the same thing, but a friend of mine sings a version of "The Fox"--"The fox went out on a chilly night..." that he found, I think, in a Canadian primer, that had much more colorful language than the familiar version. I've been trying to convince him to add the song to our songbook, but he never comes through, whether out of forgetfulness or out of a desire to keep the song as his own, I don't know. Does anyone know such a version of the song? --seed |

09 Aug 98 - 05:59 AM (#34501) Subject: RE: Reynard the Fox From: Joe Offer Click here and see if this might be the version you're looking for. Or, maybe this. Otherwise, it could be this one. I did a forum search under "Reynard," and these three threads seemed to be closest to what you're seeking. good luck. You might also want to check the Digital Tradtion lyrics database under "Reynard" and "fox." I don't think the June Tabor version has been posted here. She sings too darn fast for me - all I can make out is a few phrases. -Joe Offer- |

23 Aug 98 - 03:45 PM (#35735) Subject: Lyr Add: REYNARD THE FOX From: Maelgwyn I think I figured out most of the lyrics to this except for the end. If anyone could help me out with the last verse that would be great. Here's what I've got so far in case anyone's interested. There are a few words here and there that I'm not sure about, so if anyone sees any mistakes please correct me. REYNARD THE FOX
A good many gentlemen take great delight
Oh former? lords, horses, and hounds they did send
All through the wild woods they gave chase and gave game
Oh pardon, dear huntsmen, ? ? ? ? Well, that's that. If anyone could fill in those question marks that would be wonderful. Thanks :) |

Maelgwyn, you sure got a lot more out of the June Tabor recording than I did. I really had trouble understanding her. -Joe Offer- |

13 Apr 00 - 02:23 PM (#211264) Subject: Lyr Add: REYNARD THE FOX From: GUEST,Walrus Maelgwyn, The version I remember (or partly remember) is slightly different:
A great many gentlemen take great delight
Oh, for My Lord's horses and hounds they did send
All through the wild woods they gave chase and gave ?
Oh pardon, dear huntsmen, for I've spoiled your game, Again, I've had to leave some blanks and I've swiped one part from you ("fat geese and ducks" sounds more likely than "puppies and ducks"). I don't know if the spacing will come out right this time. Regards Walrus |
