30 May 03 - 12:15 AM (#961643) Subject: pj hops the pond! From: p.j. Well, it's official boys and girls– I'm on my way to England, Scotland & Ireland to make some music in June and July! Anyone up for a pint? My schedule's not very flexible, it's being dictated by a couple of gigs and a lot of research for a new CD, but if there's any way to connect with Mudcatters along the way, I'd sure love to have a song and a pint with you, or a session if there's one nearby. Here are the big pieces of the itinerary: June 24-26 London June 27-29 Edinburgh June 30-July 8 Highlands (Isle of Skye, Eigg, Harris, Lewis) July 9-12 Miltown Malbay, Ireland (Willie Clancy Week) July 13-14 Westport July 15-16 Dublin Wish it could be sometime other than tourist season, but that's when the festivals are happening, so when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. Please let me know if you have any elbows that need bending when I'm in your town... xoxo pj |

Let me know if you have the chance to break your trip in this area and we will organise something for you. Hope your visit is successful. Bassic |

30 May 03 - 05:27 AM (#961717) Subject: RE: pj hops the pond From: Micca PJ, get in touch for when you are in the London area we live close to Liz(I suspect we might be the OTHER address Liz has in mind above!!!!) I can supply references!! ask Big Mick (he will probably mention Hip Flasks!)and as I work P/t I often have afternoons free to act as "Tour guide" if needed. I note you will be in London on Tuesday 24 June, a vist to Sharps Folk Club at Cecil Sharp House might be a good start? It is usually a singaround ( sort of like what you call an open Mike)where you sign in to sing as you enter and get called on in your turn, sometimes 2 times one in each part of the session. |

30 May 03 - 02:55 PM (#962089) Subject: RE: pj hops the pond From: p.j. Wow, thanks folks! I've gotten so many lovely offers so far, both on the forum and by PM, I can't wait to see you all! Here's how it's looking so far... Thanks for the warm offer, LTS-- looks like I'll be staying in London with a flute player in Crouch End. (I love that name. Spaw? Where are you Spaw?) Micca, the Sharps Folk Club sounds great, but I fear I'll be coming into London too late (and too jet-lagged) to make that a reasonable goal. On Wed and Thur (25,26) I'll be doing research during the day, but in the evening my host has offered to take me to her locals, the Auld Triangle and the Goat. I don't think there is a session that night at either place, but I'll bet there's a pint to be had... would you care to meet us there, or is there a session we should know about in town one of those evenings? Bassic, I'll be flying from London to Edinburgh on Fri 27, because I have to be at Univ. of Edinburgh early in the day. I'll be waving out the plane window at all you Yorkshire Catters, wishing I could be down there making music with you-- may I have a rain check and build Yorkshire into my next visit? Or you could bring the Yorkshire contingent down to London and we'll have a great session with Liz and Micca... :o) So far the Edinburgh sessions I've been invited to are at The Tass and Sandy Bell's (I'm meeting Allan Johnson there) and the Royal Mile (recommended because it has piano I can use.) Anyone in Edinburgh? I'm booked at the Edinbane festival in Skye, and in the weeks surrounding it I'll be at the Gaelic College (Sabhal Mor Ostaig) and out in the Western Islands. Giok, Lairg looks beautiful, but I won't get that far east this trip. Maybe next time on my way up to the Shetlands? Thank you for the offer. The Mudcat generousity is coming through again, not surprisingly. I'm so sorry I can't see everybody I'd like to, but it's great to know you're out there, wherever we go. I'm meeting up with Maeve Donnelly in Ireland, but we won't be at Willie Week as long as we thought. (Spaw? Willie week? Aw c'mon...) So I have a little more free time on the Irish end of the trip-- if there are any Irish Catters between Dublin and Milltown Malbay or up in Westport let's do some damage, shall we? getting happier by the day =pj= |
