The Other Side CDs

Hi y'all-
For those of you who recall the unbelievable impact of thye original release of Harry Smith's "Anthology of American Folk Music" back in 1957--it really kicked off the whole folk boom of the 60's--there's a couple of CDs that you might just love. It's a 2-CD set called "Other Sides", and it's a compilation of the flip sides of the old 78s that were used in the Anthology.

Sound quality is reasonable--not up to the standards set by the likes of Yazoo and Bear Family, but better than what you get at Honking Duck or The Record Lady. Volume one has better quality overall than volume two.

I've just skimmed through the two, and found some tracks what are (IMO) gems: Bascom Lunceford singing "Stepsones", Buell Kazee doing "Darling Cora", Dave Macon's "Rise When the Rooster Crows", Eck Dunford's "Angeline the Baker", Kelly Harrel's "My Wife, She Has Gone and Left Me",Richard "Rabbit" Brown doing "I'm Not Jealous" and "Lemon's Worrid Blues" by Blind Lemon Jefferson.

Other Sides is obviosly a home-grown product--CD-ROMS and no artwork nor notes. Even at that, I think the two discs are well worth the $13.98 each that Camsco is asking for them. If for some eason you haven't heard the original Anthology, CAMSCO has that, too, as well as the Volume 4 that appeared some 40-0dd years after the original.

Isn't that Bascom Lunsford?

Probably is Lunsford. He recorded the same song for Rounder, sadly out of print.

Yep, it's Lunsford. And the CDs are a neat addition to the original collection.

Mr Happy, The main reason is that neither side would have artwork on it if it was made double sided. The other reason is that it would be more costly.
