Following the confusion of our alternate week strategy, we have now clarified everything.

The acoustic workshop now runs every Tuesday night in the Sun Inn Beverley - starting around 8.30.

I know that is a sensible arrangement but there is a long story about why it ended up as complex as it did - I'll tell you over a pint of three one day. Suffice it say that we originally set it up fortnightly to avoid any clash with Barton which was on the other Tuesday at that time - but that was all pre PEL etc

I hope to get across tomorrow night Roger, I believe Eric has a couple of banjos for me but I won't be playing for a couple of months due to an accident with a circular saw last week.

Bill

Eric was telling us about your accident last week and we were all cringing!! How is it looking now? Hope that you are soon active again.

AAAAARrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggh!

My dad did that Bill but dispite loosing the end of his thumb, first and index fingers he continued to play his fiddle, the jigs and reels flowed as if he'd been playing them with his third fingre and pinkie all his life!

They are still heavily bandaged and have gone stiff and they are of course bloddy saw !!! But they are getting itchy as well which is a sign of healing, I hope. I got a brand new saw delivered today with a safety guard so it shouldn't happen again. I think I will be playing banjo in about six weeks but if I can't there is always melodeon, you don't need left hand fingers for that. Sorry I couldn't make it tonight, I didn't finish work till after 10-30.
Cheers Bill

Last night Eric was asking if I had your phone number, which I don't. Do you want to PM me with it and I'll pass it on.

Since we are every Tuesday the next workshop is tonight. Last week we got so full that we struggled to get everyone into the larger room at the back that we moved into a few months ago after the snug proved too small.

I hope that we don't have to move into the main bar as we will lose some intimacy, but it is a possibility.

The new licensee took over this week and the pub re-opened on Sunday. We will be continuing with the acoustic workshop on Tuesday evenings as usual - the start time is around 8.30.

It would be nice to have a good turnout on the first night of the new regime - the landlord is giving us some free drinks so I'd like to convince him early on that it is a good investment.

Well, we had our first night at the Sun under the new landlord and everything is tickity boo. There was a good turnout of musicians and singers, the landlord was happy and gave us some free beer and so we continue in the same venue without interuption.

Ian, the new landlord, is keen to promote music and is looking for people to book on an evening and would also like to promote more sessions - if anybody would like to run them.

For our first Acoustic Workshop under the new management at the Sun we had a fine time. The pub was warm and the new licensees very welcoming.

Thanks to the following for turning up to play and support our ongoing venture:

Tom, Anne, Annie, Val, Mike, Roy, Jake, Eric, Bill, Jo, Graham, John, Steve and me. Oh, and all the listeners too. A few of the regulars were missing but we don't expect everyone to turn up every week, as long as we have a quorum.

Another good night on Tuesday with 18-20 performers, all of whom got a free drink from the landlord. The pub was buzzing too with lots of people drinking in the bar area and listening to our playing. We will be there again on Tuesday next (23rd)from 8.30.

Several people also expressed a wish to play in the Sun on Sunday and so we have arranged to meet up at 3pm on the 20th - all welcome to join in or just listen.

Well, what a great session! There were about a dozen of us - mainly guitarists but one banjo, one mandolin and one fiddle so we dropped straight into country/bluegrass mode.

The pub gradually filled up and the crowd were totally engaged with the singing such that we couldn't really stop and we ended up playing from 3pm to nearly 10pm.

We will be there again next Sunday (and this Tuesday night) from 3pm - a free pint to each performer too.

A super session last night with 21 performers crammed into the back room of the Sun. And what a range of stuff too - everything from ensemble tunes to unaccompanied Springsteen songs.

We are gearing up for our Buddy Holly theme night on Feb 3rd (45 years since he died). I have a list of songs and people will be signing up to do one, two or three in their own style. If you want to have a go you will need to come down to the Sun on Tuesday or Sunday on one of the next three weeks to get your name on the list.

Just a reminder that, if you aren't out playing for exhorbitant amounts of cash on Wednesday, that we will be running a session in the Sun from 8.30.

So far we have several fiddlers, at least one harpist, a magic spoons player, concertinas, guitars and mandolin - and of course voices - due to turn up

And a fine do it was too. The pub was heaving - busiest that I've seen it since the last folk festival.

We had a dozen players and singers including three fiddles, three concertinas, banjo, mandolin, three guitars, spoons and four singers and several silly hats. Yes, I know that is more than 12.
