Lyr Req: Signpost on the old road fork

From: Bill Paul

I'm looking for full lyrics & title of a song my mom used to sing:

The signpost on the old road fork
Says it takes you to New York.
For an hour or two I sat up there
But it didn't take me anywhere.

Chorus:

Got a horse and a cow, a mule and a plow
I'll get along somehow.

If you can help me post here or e-mail me at: billp@mail.p3.net

This song sounds interesting but I wasn't able to find it.

Googling with various phrases didn't get me anywhere.

Note that I am refreshing a 9-year-old thread here.

This one reminds me of the true story of the old New York Yankee catcher, Yogi Berra, famous for malapropisms, along with baseball skills. He was invited to give a commencement address a few years ago. Toward the conclusion of it, he was heard to advise, "Always remember; when you come to that fork in the road....take it!"

Funny. I was thinking of Berra when I opened this thread. "If ya don't go to people's funerals they won't go to yours."
