10 Jun 03 - 10:59 PM (#965543) Subject: BS: Easy Jet - Are these Fares for real????? From: Maryrrf I pulled up some fares on the Easy Jet website (used to be Go-Fly, I think?)and they are unbelievably low. For October the fares ranged from 3 Pounds to 17 Pounds for flights between Glasgow and Belfast. Has anybody actually taken this airline or is there some kind of gimic? Here's a link to the site : http://www.easyjet.com |

On the continent they are refered to as "SLEAZY - JET".
Their are no amenities, no service, no "traditions."
Drink before you board.... eat after you debark.....(who the hell believes that "cuisine" should be served on a 75 minute flight?)
This corporation has got it RIGHT!
Just get me there, without the fanfare....airlines are just a Bus!

From: C-flat I've taken advantage of Easy Jets bargain prices and can confirm the prices are for real, but don't forget about the airport taxes which aren't included in your ticket prices. I can also confirm that Gargoyle has it right too, they are like buses and you can't book actual seats on them. It's a bit of a scramble to board as everyone tries to make sure they get to sit with their travel companion. At the end of the day, it's a no-frills service at a hell of a discount and I've never understood the desire to force down a meal that you wouldn't give to your dog, when you're on a two hour flight. And so what if you're sitting next to a stranger? We're all strangers....... |

If you want to eat you can buy snacks and they have a range of drinks (including alcohol), so there's not that much difference to a "normal" airline. cheers, Terry |

11 Jun 03 - 03:21 AM (#965641) Subject: RE: BS: Easy Jet - Are these Fares for real????? From: JudeL Yes it's for real. For our trip to Portaferry, the return fare, cost me less than £100 for 3 of us, & it was the airport tax that made it as high as that. Otherwise it would have been less than half that. Different time flights on the same day can cost a lot different and the cost of the same flight may change depending upon when you book it. They don't serve meals, or drink & my long legged partner mentioned that there isn't a lot of leg room (not a prob for someone like me who's less than 5ft tall). I believe they are also fairly strict on limiting baggage but again since we were only going for a weekend we didn't take that much, so I don't know how true that is. There are no assigned seats it's 1st come, 1st served. If like us all you want is transport then why pay more. |

11 Jun 03 - 06:12 AM (#965679) Subject: RE: BS: Easy Jet - Are these Fares for real????? From: Bagpuss I have flown with them loads of times, and only once had a problem (when we all had to get off the plane we had boarded and get on another one, due to a lack of communication between easy jet and its crew/the airport). One tip is to check in early, because there is a priority boarding system where those with kids or mobility problems can board first and snaffle the best seats, then those with the first 30 boarding cards given out , then the next 30 etc. Even with the airport taxes added, they are pretty cheap. We recently flew to Prague for £60 return (thats with the taxes added in - they cost almost as much as the flights!). The earlier you book, the cheaper the prices, and midweek flights are cheaper than weekend ones, so its often a good idea to try a few dates and see what day offers the cheapest deal. Though I haven't used them so far, I believe that Ryanair are equally as good value. Bagpuss |

From: Micca Yeah, Cat and I got flights from Gatwick to Belfast return for £25 each for the Portaferry Portstock w/e and with the hostel costs being so low it made for an inexpensive weekend all round.OK the say no frills and they mean NO frills (I dont think they would recognise one if it bit them, come to that I am not sure I would either) |

11 Jun 03 - 07:41 AM (#965711) Subject: RE: BS: Easy Jet - Are these Fares for real????? From: Trevor Easy-Jet aren't the cheapest, and as somebody else has said, the published fare isn't what you'll pay. Some of the promotional ofers are fantastic - I flew to Pisa with Ryan Air last year for £1.00 (plus airport & security tax it came to £15). I fly to Athens three or four times a year and have found the best deals through lastminute.com. You will get scheduled flights with all the service, a bit more leg-room etc, and they have ALWAYS been cheaper than Easy Jet. Another alternative is to but flights only from the charter companies. I know that Excel and Brittannia have an on-line facility for buying tickets on charter flights and unlike the last minute package holiday firms who also offer FO, you can usuall work out travel for periods of other than a week or a fortnight. Incidentally, I flew from Gatwick to Samos last week for £98.00 return. |

11 Jun 03 - 09:18 AM (#965766) Subject: RE: BS: Easy Jet - Are these Fares for real????? From: Maryrrf Well, I could care less about frills especially for a flight that's less than an hour, I just wanted to know if the company was real and really does transport people for those prices I spent a lot more than that last year taking the train and the ferry from Scotland to Belfast. And I know the dates so I can book way ahead. Thanks for the info, everyone! |

13 Jun 03 - 02:49 AM (#966721) Subject: RE: BS: Easy Jet - Are these Fares for real????? From: mouldy I'm travelling to Prague on them in 4 weeks' time, with the other half, but it's costing us £220 (inc taxes) for the priviledge. I suppose that, given the time of year, it's not too bad as it's only about £46 each without the extras. If we went a day earlier or came back a day later to make it a full 7 day trip, it would have been £78 each, or thereabouts. He did give me the option of going to Norway with Ryanair for £26 per person each way, but I have always wanted to go to Prague... ...and yes these fares are for real, as I have spoken to people who have bought the flights. They only seem to be on selected destinations, though. Andrea |

13 Jun 03 - 03:19 AM (#966734) Subject: RE: BS: Easy Jet - Are these Fares for real????? From: Lanfranc Easyjet and Ryanair work for me, too. The pricing structure is a bit arcane - you can get different quotes for the same trip if you log in to their website twice in the same day! Ryanair have a deal with Hertz which means that you can hire a Focus with aircon for around €30 a day, which enabled the missus and me to visit my sister, who lives near Tours in France, for a total of £250 for five days. This compares with £100-£190 for the Tunnel or Ferry, plus petrol, plus tolls - it takes four hours instead of twelve, and someone else does 90% of the driving. As we live near Stansted, a lift to the airport kept the parking cost down to £8, but otherwise the parking is definitely the bugbear. Beware the so-called "Stansted Express" train service to the airport from London, though. For a couple of weeks in May they were using a bus, and the line is notoriously unreliable at the best of times. It's run by West Anglia Great Northern Railways, universally known as "We Ain't Going Nowhere"! Alan |

From: Maryrrf I think for my next trip I will use one of these airlines - although believe it or not British Airways was showing a fare of $18 on Yahoo travel for Glasgow/Belfast. I enjoy the ferry crossing but last time I sat next to a family with six kids, who proceeded to have a big lunch and then all got seasick! |
