Origins: Carnavalito Tango

Subject: Caravalito Tango?
From: GUEST,Dáithí

This is the name of a tune used in an eighties(?) science fiction film - post-apocalyptic, with some (at the time) innovative use of combined live action/animation.Damned if I can remember what it was called...
Anybody know if there's a recording of the track available, who composed it etc??

The Carnavalito is an argentinian folk tune from the north area (Jujuy province), this is NOT tango. The tango born in Buenos Aires city, located very far from north area with an opposite music style.

Dáithí,

If you can help us identify the movie then we can probably find out the tune very easily. What was the movie about, specifically, who was in it, and whatever else you can tell us about it. There are sites on the internet which list movies and also their music.

Thanks Helen - I'm away for a couple of days, but I'll try to track the name of the film down and post accordingly.
Angeles - I'm sure you are right - but the name of this specific piece was definitely Carnavalito Tango - I remember reading it on the credits at the end of the film. Maybe the composer wrote a tango in the style of carnavalito ?

Try a search here:

All Movie Guide

Put Aftermath in the search box, make sure the "movie" button is selected. A few movies by that name show up, but the 1980 one looks right. John Morgan composed the music.

I have to go to work now, but I'll see what else I can find later today.

That's the one, Helen - but i think the track concerned was by Albert(o?) someone.
Still, at least I can get hold of the film, even though I suspect the soundtrack is not avaialble. Many thanks for taking the time to help me out..D

Here's a very detailed description of the film In the Aftermath: Angels Never Sleep at a web site called EOFFTV – The Encyclopedia of Fantastic Film and Television.

(It doesn't contain any more information about CARNAVALITO TANGO than what's been posted already, but I thought you might be interested to know that the site exists.)

I remember watching this film many years ago, very late one night on terrestrial television over here in the UK. I was probably about 16 or something like that and despite feeling that the film was pretty rubbish and I was very tired and wanted to go to bed I felt that I had to stay up and wait for the credits to find the name of that unforgettable tune which I now know to be Carnavalito Tango. I remember writing it down and keeping that scrap of paper for years because I didn't want to be unable to hear that song again.

For some unknown reason over ten years later the name popped into my head today and a quick google later here I am but I can't seem to find anything else on the internet about carnavalito tango or even much info about the film.

This song was so beautiful and there are a couple of other posts I've found which mention similar stories so this is obviously not a one off. Has anybody had any luck in getting hold of the music or even a copy of the film? I would love to hear that music again.

Ok, I've been looking for this song since I saw it late at night in the UK around 10 years ago (clearly, I've been doing other things as well;). Anyhow - glad I'm not the only one. Did anyone have any luck with an MP3?

What a track! I was expecting an ordinary little tango, but that is the full works. Thanks for letting us know about this music, and I'm glad you finally tracked it down. Interesting that the film was an Australian one.

According to the YouTube video, CARNAVALITO TANGO is credited to Horatio Moskovici.

This site claims to have a free download of the MP3.

Horatio Moskovici: here you have all:
Nombre original (original name): "Vení Gabriel" ("come Gabriel")
Autor e interprete: Horacio Simon Moscovici -is not Moskovici- (from Argentina)
Original version: youtube.com/watch?v=ZMjJQ47YxLI
Full album: depositfiles.com/files/ix0q24r86
"Horatio" and "Hegel"(his dog): youtube.com/watch?v=7ASlbK1K08s

Smile!
