Looking For Music For John Tams

I'm trying to find guitar tab or music for Two Songs that John Tams did on his Sharpe Album. I'm looking for Johnny Is Gone For A Soldier and Colliers Recruit as done by John Tams.

Isn't Johnny Has Gone the same tune as Shule Aroon?

It's similar, but not quite the same as on the Sharpe album, so far as I can tell from some very dodgy playing by sight! Some of the lines start the same then wander off at a tangent.

There are a number of versions here on the Contemplator site ...... hope that one of them is what you are looking for.

Johnny has gone for a soldier

Are there guitar tabs somewhere on there though? Can't see any.

I gave that link so that you could identify which particular version you were looking for.

Thanks for the hell regarding Johnny Is Gone For A Soldier I have managed to get some cord info regarding that one now I'm just looking for the other one Colliers Recruit. It is sung by Kate Rusby on the album I have so I'm not sure if it one of her's or one of John Tams or if it is an old traditional song. Any info regarding that one is much required since I have to give it to my new guitarist to learn by the 28th of this month :o).
Here's hoping someone out there can help.
Thanks
Diane

"The Recruited Collier" was printed as a broadssheet and also in an early collection of Cumbrland ballads in the early 19th century. That's what Karl Dallas says in his collection "The Cruel Wars" (1972) - mind he has "words and music: Karl Dallas" at the head of the version he gives - but I don't think that's intended to be taken as meaning anything. Maybe he tweaked the tune or the words.

According to this posting in a recent A.L. Lloyd thread, "The Recruited Collier" was created by Bert from another song.

Try this

D                         A                D            G       A
Oh what's the matter with you me love and where's your dashing Jimmy
    D                A                D            A       D
The soldier boys have picked him up and pressed him far far from me
D                G       A      D       Bm    A
Last pay day we went to town and them red coated fellows
D                           A
Enticed him in and they've made him drunk
         Em          A       G
now he's better gone to the gallows
    D          A       D
he's better gone to the gallows

Sorry the formatting has moved the chords from their rightful places but you should be able to put them in the right place.

Hi Mudcatters

Anyone worked out chords for Devonshire Carol? I'm wanting to sing it at Christmas this year and need some chords to get my accompanist started.

Concertina would be ideal, but guitar would also be great.

Thanks!
