Hey Amos, Banjoest, Bear, Genie . . . anything coming up in the way of a jam anytime soon?

Well, we did wander down to the park Saturday but it was kinda of a short one, for me , anyway -- I had to go see "Nemo" which was great.

Banjoest, let's set up a date for June 29th, whaddya think? Can we get those boys down for it? And Miss Iffy--the Queen of Mebbeso? :>))

Lemme know if they're up for it and I'll pass the word to my downline!

I was kinda hoping to get one going for the 5th or 6th of July. There are some people I know that are coming from the midwest and they wwant to hear us play. Playing the 29th of June AND the 5th or 6th of July is fine with me. I'll see what Bear and Janet have to say...

I'm for both, tentatively. Have to find my better half.. well, maybe that's an oxymoron?

Consult with yer gang!

Double nickels.

One day we all should make a "thing" out of the jam. Kind of a pot-luck deal. Bring your Weenies and Gut Bombs. We could meet where they have the grills.

Yipee! I'm looking forward to it, drop my daughter off at the zoo, and I'll work on a song or two to share...Sue

In case anybody was worried, the daughter who I plan to drop off at the zoo is 15 and can certainly handle the animals better than she can handle her parents singing that "weird" music.....how did I get such a music snob for a kid? :-)

I'm chuckling at that -- I showed up once to cheer you guys on. I thought my two kids would love it but they wouldn't cooperate and demanded to continue on to the zoo. I guess the zoo is pretty stiff competition. . .

Yes -- they're really nice, although the people seem a bit uglier these days....

My old man worked at the SD Zoo for YEARS. The orangatan Ken Allen was named after my dad.

How long a drive is it from LA to Balboa Park? I'm flying in to LA early in the morning of Saturday July 19 to pick up my daughter in Ojai, then we take a redeye to Boston from LAX that night. Doable? Or crazy? (Not that I haven't been known to do crazy things, of course...)

Aloha,
Mark

Mark:

From LAX it is about an 80 minute drive. This can be dramatically increased by traffic so it depends on time of day. Doable -- but MORE doable of you take your Boston leg out of San Diego!!

If you never driven in LA traffic you're in for a treat.

From: Mark Cohen

You know, I should have trusted that psychic impulse that told me to fly out of San Diego instead of LAX! But alas, I didn't.

Since my ex moved from Boulder to Ojai last August, I've been seeing a LOT of LA traffic. I try to visit my daughter every 2 or 3 months (she's 8). So I drive from LAX to Ojai, pick her up, and then spend a long weekend in the LA area. Last time I'd decided to forgo LA traffic and spend the weekend in Santa Barbara...and then a friend was able to get us day passes for Disneyland, and gave us the secret method for getting into the Parade of Stars! It was wonderful, but that was another high mileage day.

So if you guys are going to be getting together on the 19th, let me know where and when, and if I feel I can do it in between redeye flights, I will. And if someone has an extra guitar I could borrow, that would be great. I wouldn't take my Martin to the East Coast even if it hadn't been stolen.

Aloha,
Mark

We can probablt make a point of it if you'll be there, Doc!! And I wouldbe happy to lend you a guitar. We usually pick on Sundays (e.g. July 10) from around noon to three. How does that jive with you?

Well we had a proper howdydo this week, folkies -- sitting on the greensward and picking and grinning, sipping on a little something special now and then, and sometimes just leaning back and yipping outta sheer high spirits. Bear and Banjoest are more fun than a room full of bodhrans!! The weather was perfect, the passers by were encouraging, and the glen was alive with pulchritude of the very best sort. Who could ask for more than that, I ask ya! :>)

Now Mark -- give us a firm date, woncha?

Regards,

Mark, park at the main entrance to the zoo.Walk down to the Natural History Museum, hang a right at the plaza with the fountain and the reflecting pond will be on your right.

Sort of.

Maybe I should take a quick trip down from North Idaho to do some picking. But wait! I have some electrical work to do in Pensylvania, also.Nay not be able to make either one.

Uh oh, I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a rain check. I just found out that I can't pick my daughter up until late Saturday morning, which means that by the time we got down there it would be close to the time I'd have to leave. And I don't want to take the chance of missing my flight to Boston. Damn...well, I guess I'll try to make it the next time I visit my daughter, in 2 or 3 months. Sorry you folks had to change your schedule around in vain.

Aloha,
Mark

PS, Wait, you folks are in San Diego, so I'd better explain: "to take a rain check" means to cancel an engagement with the expectation of rescheduling it for a later date. Originally a rain check was a ticket that was good for admission to a baseball game when the first game was rained out, i.e., canceled because it rained on the day of the game. I know that's not a part of your everyday experience there.

From: Amos

Well, dammit, Mark!! What a disappointment.

Now this rain stuff -- that's the wet stuff coming down, right? Not the wet stuff that lies there and makes waves for dudes to ride, right? Different wet stuff? I've heard of that, man. Kewl...

But around here we use credit cards, more than checks.

Anyway, I hope you will have a better schedule next time you're coming nigh.

Well, ya'll are all invited to my new place... just as soon as I rip out the ancient pink carpet and paint over the mint green walls. Ewww... what were they THINKING?

Subject: RE: Balboa park in June or July?

Nicole, I once bought a house where the wallpaper in the master bedroom was HUGE fluorescent pink/yellow/red/green flowers. Took three coats of paint to cover it...and I could still hear it at night. And I almost bought one with a kitchen done entirely in black: countertops, cabinets, appliances, wall tile, floor. And of course you know that in most states it's a legal requirement that rental houses have orange high-pile carpet... When it comes to the decorative tastes of the people who lived in your place before you, the question "What were they thinking?" becomes a sort of Zen koan.

Aloha,
Mark
