17 Jun 03 - 09:00 AM (#967547) Subject: Obit: Hume Cronyn - RIP From: Fiolar Sadly another veteran of the screen has passed away. The death has been announced of Hume Cronyn age 91. Born in Ontario, Canada in July 1911 he made his screen debut in 1943 and starred in such films as "Lifeboat" (1944); "The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946); "Hamlet" (1964) and the "Cocoon" duo among many others. He was married to actress Jessica Tandy from 1942 until her death in 1994. I salute them both and trust that they have a happy re-union. |

True professionals in the very best sense, and always courteous to the whole staff, back stage and front of house. Mind you, we all learned to avoid playing gin rummy with them. They'd have the shirts off your back ... Maybe someone should warn the angels and archangels ... ? sian |

She worked with Hume and Jessican in "Foxfire". Hume also did the (prerecorded) narration for a Christmas Revels I was involved in many years ago. A good man. |

And it took 40 years nearly for Burton's only surviving film of a rehersal run-through of the entire play to find it's way to DVD. Carol gave it to me for our last anniversary.--- Burton just filmed whatever they got----however it came out--let the chips fall where they might----complete with flubs and a call from Hume for someone to give him his next line at one point. R.B. wanted all copies of this destroyed. That was in his will. But an ex-wife kept hers----and now I've got it. Art Thieme |
