Flanders CD--Bok, Carthy, Killen etc

This is an incredible recording!!!

Folk-Legacy's newest CD brings together a most impressive list of modern-day ballad singers including three All-Ireland Champions (Frank Harte, Jim McFarland, Len Graham) plus Gordon Bok, Martin Carthy, Bob Conroy, Louis Killen, Bonnie Milner, Dan Milner, Deirdre Murtha, Robbie O'Connell, Caroline and Sandy Paton, and Ian Robb.

"Irish Songs from Old New England: Traditional Irish-American Songs from the Flanders Ballad Collection" contains 16 songs, some of them quite rare.

This vaste treasury of musical folklore is comprised of nearly 4,500 field recordings collected by my grandmother, Helen Hartness Flanders, (and 3 other collectors) between the years 1930 and 1960.

Because a great deal of the material remains unreleased in any form and is available only at Middlebury College, the Library of Congress and Harvard University, this new CD should be of importance to anyone interested in traditional New England folk song.

The Folk-Legacy web page is http://www.folklegacy.com/cd/cd132.htm

Is anyone going to do something similar of the non-Irish songs in the collection?

Yes! Several singers are researching and performing from the collection. Other CDs are in the planning stages. This is great because there are many rare songs which people haven't heard.

Nancy-Jean's natural modesty prevented her from mentioning that she played a invaluable part during the research stage of making this disc.

The recording is so new that Folk-Legacy hasn't had the chance to ship any yet, so, if you you're interested, Folk-Legacy is the only source right now.

All the best,
Dan Milner

So, will there be a few copies at Old Songs? I'd like one, too!

Folk Legacy usually has a tent at Old Songs. Sandy, can you confirm you'll be there this year?
