Hi Folks, Friend would love to have the lyrics to a song her Dad sang.
First line:
One modest May morning, I looked down upon Erin-The land of my birth and the gem of the sea.

Can anyone help out? I've tried evey site I can think of with no luck. Thanks in advance. Mickey191

I looked around and found no leads to this one. Anybody?

Would this be the song "Katy McFerran", written by William Shakespeare Hays, published 1867 by J.L. Peters of New York.

This and more info about Hays at the Public Domain Music site http://www.pdmusic.org/hays.html (but no lyrics).

Delphinium, Thanks so much-I do not know if this is the same song as there are no lyrics listed. Some of the words my friend recalls:      One modest May morning, I looked down upon Erin, The land of my birth and the gem of the sea.   Thanks.

I found mention of this in one book, but no lyrics. I gather it was a well-known song. My source confirms Delphinium's spelling and songwriter information.

Thanks Joe & Delphinium, appreciate your efforts. Guess this is a lost cause.

Hey, Mickey, we never give up. I'll put this in Unanswered Requests. Sooner or later, somebody will find an answer.

No obvious sign of it at the Irish Traditional Music Archive in Dublin.

Don't know how the rest of it goes but it sure starts out nicely.

All the best,

I'm going to have to get serious about this one! I'm off on holidays for a few weeks and will have a good look when I get back, if it hasn't been found.

Regards
