Naturally, this is NOT the same as 'Caledonia' by Dougie McLean, which is also banned. |

Although I seem to recall Hamish Henderson being opposed to this being referred to as a Scottish national anthem, since that was contrary to the inclusive and internationalist theme of the song. I like Dougie Maclean's Caledonia, but it's not anthemic - it's gentle and reflective. Scots Wha Hae is great, but it's not positive enough - it's too anti-English How about.... "Ye canny shove yer Grannie"? |

26 Jun 03 - 04:01 PM (#972898) Subject: RE: alternatives to scottish national anthem From: McGrath of Harlow Dick Gaughan has a good story about this this to say on his website, about the late Norman Buchan, MP and folkie I'd post it here, but Dick is very specific in saying of everything on his site "May not be reproduced in whole or in part in any form, material or electronic, without the written permission of the author." (And even in posting that, of course, I've broken that injunction of his...) So if you are curious you'll have to click oin that. (Which is to the good, because it's a great site to get to visit.) |
