I have been searching for these lyrics for going on 10 years. All I remember are snipets of lyrics.

There was a shadow in the pale moonlight
It was a bear
A great big mother of a bear
So I went running through the trees
With my pants around my knees and
I never ever went back there.

Maybe that will jog some memories. Anyone out there know it?

G'day, You too. Bye bye.
^^^
Oh boy do I love bears
you can bet your life that I do.
There ain't nothing anywhere like a big black bear,
As long as he is a mile away from you.

Well, the first time I went camping,
just a knapsack on my back.
I hiked ten miles into the bush
with a buddy by the name of Jack.
And old Jack he was an expert,
he'd been camping for a whole lotta years.
All we took was some fishin gear, skillet and a dozen beers.

Well the day went great.
Went fishin on the lake,
and we sure had a barrel of fun.
About ten that night, just a little bit tight
fryin fillets in the setting sun.
Found a patch of ground and laid a sleeping bags down,
And we crawled in for the night.
Woke up about three, staring down at me
was a shadow in the pale moonlight.

Was a bear, a great big mother of a bear.

I was up in a flash,
I did the ten mile dash
and I never ever went back there.

Oh boy do I love bears
you can bet your life that I do.
There ain't nothing anywhere like a big black bear,
As long as he is a mile away from you.

Well, the next time I went camping,
I took my brand new waterproof tent
To a campground full of people.
Bout the nicest place I ever went.
I had a cooler full of steaks and things,
and another one full of beer.
I had plenty to eat,
Had plenty to drink,
Could have stayed there for a year.

About two oclock in the afternoon
well I strolled down to the lake.
I met a girl named Jan,
with a deep brown tan.
Oh boy that was a break.
By ten that night we were snuggled up nice,
and the tent was zipped up tight.
I Woke up about three, staring down at me
was a shadow in the pale moonlight.

It was a great big hole,
in my brand new tent.
Was a bear, a great big mother of a bear.

I was up in a flash,
I did the hundred mile dash
and I never ever went back there.

Oh boy do I love bears
you can bet your life that I do.
There ain't nothing anywhere like a big black bear,
As long as he is a mile away from you.

Well the last time I went camping,
I was invited by a friend called Jake,
To a great big bear proof cabin
on a hill over looking the lake.
We had booze, and girls and a fireplace,
and music that could turn you on.
We had everything that a man could need
'cept, we didn't have an indoor john.
Well late that night my stomach didn't feel right.
And I knew that I had to go
down the winding path to the little outhouse
About sixth yards or so.
Well my knees were knocking, but I just kept walking
and I made it to the place alright.
When I finished my chore and I opened the door
there was a shadow in the pale moonlight.
I didn't even have time to buckle my belt.

Was a bear, a great big mother of a bear.

Soon I was running through the trees
with my pants around my knees,
and I never ever went back there.

Oh boy do I love bears
you can bet your life that I do.
There ain't nothing anywhere like a big black bear,
As long as he is a mile away from you.

Oh boy do I love bears
you can bet your life that I do.
There ain't nothing anywhere like a big black bear,
As long as he is a mile away from you.

Bump bum....

The web site of the cable TV channel GAC (Great American Country) has this Q&A:
Q: There's a song I really want to hear but I haven't a clue on the title or singer. Here are some sample lyrics: "Boy, do I love bears, you can bet your life I do. There ain't nothin' anywhere like a big black bear as long as he's a mile away from you." Hope you can help.
    --Steven, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada

A: I guess we can make this closed circuit to all our Canadian readers, Steven. My sources tell me this was part of an album put together by a man named Larry Clark, who once taught at the university in your town. It was released by RCA across Canada with Clark using the stage name Uncle Smoky and it did very well. Except for a few DJs such as Dr. Demento, who enjoy playing novelty recordings, there wasn't much notice taken in the U.S., however.
The National Library of Canada lists an album by Larry "Uncle Smoky" Clark called "Fun Songs for the Summer Crowd," RCA Victor KKL1-0473, 1982.

Although it doesn't give a track listing, it seems fair to conclude that this is the album in question.

If you search for "bear song" at Alta Vista Audio Search you will get a lot of hits. However, experience shows that some of them will be dead links and a lot of them will be the wrong song. If you have the patience to listen to samples of a LOT of songs, you MIGHT find the one you are looking for.

If you do, please come back here and post the results.

Our family used to camp up at Whiteshell and spent nights with the Clarkes in their cottage/home and around our campsite.

Our family was given the LP, and I'd now like to get the songs in digital format.

Can any of the relatives / friends of the Clark's please contact or forward this e-mail to the Clarks' so I can persue this further with them?

Thanks,
Corey

I have been looking for this for quite some time. The issue may be that no one has digital masters or even copies of this item as I have found no evidence of it being available anywhere. The best thing to do may be to have the LP captured digitally on a computer and use a software suite to clean it up. If anyone has the LP and would care to loan/sell it so I can do the work please let me know. Then if we can get hold of the Clarke's we can discuss the distribution.

Thanks

Kevin

Yes it can. There are various audio capture devices that allow this to be done. Magic Cleaning Lab is a piece of software that would work to clean it up and digitize the songs. You would need a capture device, such as a Pinnacle Dazzle, and a cassette player to plug into it. If I could get a copy of the tape from someone I could do the work as I have all the required software and hardware. Contact me at kevin_herkendaal@hotmail.com. If someone can get me a copy of the cassette I will gladly do it and post back.

Hey all. I know this is an old thread, but I am also looking for Uncle Smoky's album. I am looking for any format available, to either purchase CD or cassette tape, or download mp3. Any help anyone can provide to locate this album would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

LOL great album. I have the vinyl. Mastered a CD for the car and mp3'd to my iPod. Don't think its in the public domain so kinda hard to publish links to the mp3's or an ISO image.

But I did find the Bear Song on youtube... just search Oh Boy Do I Love Bears and you will find it...

I love too the lyrics page on MudCat, how the text of Scruff Connors on the phone saying 'Bye Bye' to a radio call in, was included. :)

Hi All,

I am still looking for a copy of thsi as well. I heard it when I was in my early teens and loved it. At one point I had the album in MP3 format and have since lost it.
