Tune Req: Walk Right In (from Rooftop Singers)

Subject: Search help: Walk Right In
From: elkid@compsol.net

Well, I've struck out in all my online database searches. Hopefully, someone on this forum can help. I'm trying to find a score (or at minimum, the basic chords and lyrics) for the Rooftop Singer's number "Walk Right In". Failing a score, if anyone knows the composer and/or who has the rights to the song, I'd appreciate the contact info. The only thing I've found is their "vinyl" and a sound clip. Thanks for any leads. //bb

We had this discussion a while back. I have moved the thread in question up to the top.

Lyrics, composer, etc. is all over there, no score though.

elkid,

Follow this link to find the words. The chord progression is fairly standard.

First line C A7 D7 G7 C G7
Second line C A7 D7 G7
Third line C C7 F D7(or the diminished chord)
Last line C A7 D7 G7 C G7

If you are new to guitar, this may seem obscure, but perhaps you can translate it given that you have some audio for the song.

Oops, the link didn't work. Probably a typo. Go to the thread list and see Dale Rose RE: Lyrics to and find the words in there. Sorry my HTML is not up to par.

Link's fixed, Roger. I find it's best to copy the URL from the "address" window on my browser, and then paste it into the link you're building. Links require the HTTP and all that other stuff, or else they don't work.

Thanks, Roger and Dale for your assistance and for all of you that added to the wonderful detail info from the May thread. Dale, just FYI, I did try searching the older threads, but didn't get a match - - hence the posing of my request. Of course, it's quite possible that there was something wrong with my search criteria.

Again, thanks for your help. Regards, Barbara B.

Barbara, it's best to use the "forum search" instead of the filter. The filter only goes back for a year, and the word or phrase you're looking for has to be in the thread title. The "forum search," one of Max's more recent innovations, is vastly more powerful.

Joe O.

Thanks for the hint. Seems so much simpler your way.

I tried the chords that were listed in the link and unless I am misremembering how the song goes, they aren't quite right. Of course, now I am caught up in the half-remembered song which is insisting in streaking through my consciousness in shards and slivers.

There is a link in the old thread that used to lead to a recording of the Rooftop Singers but, to borrow a phrase from physical anthropology, that link is now missing. I am left with a twelve string guitar and a ten fingered set of hands, all twitching to try out the bass line of "Walk Right In"

Help!

I would say the chords there are OK, but the "spacing" isn't obvious. See if this helps. For the key of C: (The A, D, & G chords here could just as well be A7, D7, & G7.)

C - C A D G C G
C - C A D - G -
C - C - C - F -
C - C A D G C -

The C7 and D7 in the third line of the linked post would fit in, but strike me as optional embellishment.

Does anyone know where I can find guitar tab for the guitar solo for the song "Walk Right In"?

Thanks.

This is one of the first things I learned to pick and play on the guitar, in 1964 or so. If it is still needed I can put together a MIDI and/or the chords I learned. Probably from one of those Mel Bay books or something like.

Barbara

Hearing the Roof Top Singers in Greenwich Village in the 1960's was my first exposure to " contemporary" folk music. I was outraged, however, how much I had to pay for my soft drink. I believe Leon Bibb was also there that night and in spite of the outrageous cover charge my brother and I were quite thrilled to be there.

Cheerily,

I'm astonished that this thread contains no reference to the guy who wrote the song. This was Gus Cannon, an excellent black American banjo player who played in Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers in the twenties.

Aw, Ray, this is just a tune/chords thread. You'll see we did justice to Gus Cannon way back in 1997 in the origins thread.
