i'll paddle around in my pond simultaneously.
Joe i did not get to meet you!
perhaps we need to arrange a
west coast canoe adventure !!
we have many rivers, lakes and an ocean
here to play in!! Hard to find places
where the motorized craft don't wash
over you with thier wakes, though.

The last canoe I was in was the MV Caribou from North Syney, NS to Port-aux-Basques, NF. 1500 passenger, Ro-Ro, 400 auto, bulbous bow, 28,000 British Horsepower, Ice Breaker Class Ferry (as far as Ferry's go). Hell of a grand band playing in the pub on deck five. Pretty shitty fly fishing though. But, much more comfortable.

As soon as I get use to canoing on the Salmon River in Kent county, N.B., where I just bought a camp last week, I'll come to where your at if you'll come to where I'm to. I named it "Blackwater Camp" after the fact that it's on about eight miles or more of black water, that my last name is Owens, that I AM Clan Owens' wild banshee here, and that Holy Mary doth pitty me. (I know about the s', but I know about the other spelling mistakes as well (it's really Eoghan). See "The Castle of Dramore" or "October Winds" in the Digitrad).

BTW, I grin at the line in the song... "Take heed young eaglet til thy wings are feathered fit to soar"... Canehdian translation : "Don't fuck with the eagles til you learn to fly."

'Hardicanute'? Noreen, have you no shame? :>)

(I attended a high school that was on the banks of a river, and we had canoeing in Gym class...wish I could make it Ontario!)

I am currently building a touring canoe. If anyone wants the molds, let me know, as I am done with them. The DAMfino will also sail. Is the area you have selected for this appropriate for canoe sailing?

I'm not sure about canoe sailing. Can your canoe work without?

It can but if the place is a lake or bay, sailing is easier than paddling-- despite what I went through today.

A bit far for me and the missus. But we did paddle Fort William to Inverness (well almost) along the Caledonian Canal. We set sails on Loch Ness.....boy did we shift. It is easy to rig a sail of sorts with a pole or two but dont expect to much

Rudder busted on a downwind leg. Managed to sail the boat to where I was going. Sail got damaged in high wind on the way back. Took a lot of long tacks with very little upwind capability. Trip out took 30 minutes. Trip back, against wind and tide took 4 hours. Good thing I had been trained in cruising class sailing, controlling a sailing canoe with a paddle in place of a rudder. If I were better at it, I could have made it back in hald the time.

Actually, I had a ball. If I had just been able to get rid of one or the other of my "crew." I was just completely burned out emotionally after the sail. All the repairs are pretty basic.

When I got into the office today, one of my coworkers, an [East] Indian, asked me whether I had had a race transplant, as I am now as dark as he is.

I can relate. Last week I put in with someone who didn't know how to paddle but thought he did so in addition to fighting to counter his sideways momentum I had a rough time tracking her straight!

I went on a course years ago, and was put in a two man canoe for part of the training. The instructor said the quickest way to learn to hate someone, is in a two man canoe, he was right too!!

There is a cartoon going the rounds of a bridal couple. They are standing next to a rack of canoes. The rev is saying something to the effect of: I will put you in a canoe. If you can reach the other side of the lake and come back, I will join you in holy matrimony if you are still speaking to each other.
