They gave me twenty dollars for her. Twenty !!!? …one for every year I've had her….Then….. after finding out if they would accept her or not. (Can you believe that??????) . I had to drive her into the yard sanctum. ……….The place from which no car returns….She was left in a line to be dealt with ####*!!. I felt like I'd left her on death row. I looked around at the rows of cars up on stands …. their wheels and tires missing. People were stripping bits down as they wanted them. Like walking past rows of hanging bodies whilst the crows peck at the eyes. I know, I know….but it was Myyyyyyyyyyyyy !! car. I'm missing her already.I couldn't get the plates off. Glad really . Said good - bye and hurtled through a million trips we've shared together. I bet she's realised by now that she's not in for a spit and polish…………. I told you I wasn't well. Doc |

From: Red and White Rabbit parting is such sweet sorrow - just beware of the nightmares to follow and the hauntings that come after that - beeing chased down the street by herbie and friends!!or every street corner you turn you see her there looking at you indicator lights blinking back the tears ands wipers waving frantically begging you to save her there again you could be thankful that her organs are going to save some other little vehicle in some life saving transplant - trouble is donors relatives cant be informed so every car you see might just contain a little part of her - she will live on |

From: Chief Chaos I had to say goodbye to my '68 Mustang after a lady drove off a parking lot into her side at about 35 or 45 MPH. Tore the sheetmetal from the roof down to the trunk and left an 8" dent from halfway down the passenger side door to about 6" from the rear bumper. The impact was hard enough to actually bend the axle downward, not just the axle but the housing as well. Too much to repare on the measely $1,200 the insurance company gave me (after me fighting them tooth and nail) I still feel bad about dropping her off at the "Mustang Ranch" a mustang spare parts place, and that was over 15 years ago. Damn I miss her. |

At least my local council took away Nikki - my Lada - for free, within 12 hours of me phoning them and despite telling me it would take a week so I'd have time to take the tax disc out for the refund.... A car will never miss an opportunity to make life difficult for you. If it's not actually breaking down, refusing to start, or putting your life in danger by doing stupid things while you drive, it's emptying your bank account by wearining out vital parts that can ony be got at by spending long -- and expensive -- hours under the mechanic's spanner. From: Rapparee Often in the States you can donate cars -- running or not -- to such causes as the American Cancer Society or a local shelter for abused folks. They'll arrange to take the car away, and you can get a tax deduction. We did that with two cars, a 1982 Honda Civic wagon and a 1985 Toyota wagon. The Honda had taken us on a month-long camping tour of The West in 1982 and had many memories attached. The Toyota was purchased after a the previous Toyota wagon was killed, foully murdered, by a college student rushing to class (my wife, who was driving, was shaken but uninjured) and it, too, had memories of trips and good times attached. Neither had less than 190,000 miles on it. I suggest such donations. The charity sells the vehicle and uses the money, you get a tax deduction, and the vehicle does another good thing. Of course, if the car was a lemon and cost you enough, cosider a sledge hammer.... |

From: Ely We donated our beloved 1983 Toyota Tercel wagon (at 258,000 miles) to Voluteers of America and they came to get it with a flatbed wrecker. I know they do that because they can never be sure what condition a donation car will ACTUALLY be in, and it's simpler if it's a 4-wheel drive or something, but it was awful to watch because the car ran fine. The body was in abysmal shape (had been hit before we owned it and every time you went over a bump, you looked back to make sure you still had a tailgate and a rear axle), but it ran like a charm. Probably still does, for someone. In 16 years, apart from regular maintenance, we replaced the ignition and the tailgate lock and nothing else (we replaced the ignition because the keys wore out and we couldn't replacements any more). On another note: On my way to San Marcos last Thursday I managed to hydroplane and rear-end a Chevy Malibu full of Mormon missionaries. No injuries and no serious damage, but apart from whatever the Mormons want from me I now have to get the front bumper repaired--for cosmetic reasons--on my beautiful year-old hatchback. *Sob*. My only consolation is that, while we were exchanging insurance information, there were two other accidents at the same wet, oily intersection (a multi-car rear-ender and a pickup that spun out and broadsided the retaining wall on the other side of the road). I may be an imperfect driver but I'm in plentiful, if not good, company. |

It was a real accident that happened yesterday, here in NZ. A train ran into a car on a level crossing. It was rhe engine driver's car, and the really sad part is, his partner was inside - and killed. This is the only News Report I can find in a quick web-search. Somehow, it reads somewhat callous to me - especially para #3. Please join me in a thought for the locomotive driver, who must be going through sheer unadulterated HELL, just now. In sorrow - Sam |
