BS: 20 Year Presidential Curse [2012]

Since 1840, the president elected in every fifth election(multiples of 20) either died or was shot while in office. William Henry Harrison caught cold at his inauguration and died a month later. Abraham Lincoln , elected in1860, was next, Garfield was elected in 1880--up to Reagan, 1980, and, due to miracle of modern medicine, was the first survivor--(his injuries were actually more severe than Garfield's, who was basically killed by the incompetence of his doctors, a point that his assassin used in his defense)--

2000 was the curse year--any thoughts?

We can hope that it will kick in, and the world saved from the tyranny of the Bush Empire (tm)?

Great idea, except that the line of succession is so abysmal.

It also reminds me of the motto of the left during the Reagan/Carter campaign: "Shoot Bush First."

If you have to ask why, you don't have a clue about the geopolitical realities of US power and imperial reach.

I think the curse fell on the people in 2000 when the shrub stole the election and has continued on...

Thoughts? Yeah. Why would a curse start in 1840? Why not 1820, or 1839, or 1797, or 1883, or 1902?

Not a problem (or a solution). The curse only happened to elected presidents, and Bush wasn't elected.

Does that mean that Al Gore is going to die?

No, because although elected, he never got to be PResident....

I find that Tecumseh caused it. Or his brother, The Prophet. Or maybe the arrangement of the stars. Anyway, here's a discussion in Snopes.com.

There is no more sense in such a curse as there is in the "Curse of King Tut." (You can check that one out yourself.)

Given the current occupant of the White House, I'd add "Unfortunately," except...Dick Cheney??? You REALLY want Dick Cheney?

Hmm. I don't like Bush and I want him outta there, but that is a lousy way to run a country. Sets a bad precident.

Be careful what you say. Ashcroft may be checking this thread. . . .

Is your computer acting funny?
Is a strange van parking nigh?
Do not bother your policeman,
It's only Ashcroft's FBI.

Amen to Don Firth--Things like that have a deep and longlasting effect--we haven't gotten over the Kennedy assassination, and, if we can judge by controversy and emotion that the Lincoln assassination still evoke, it will be with us for generations to come.

Nobody mentions Zachary Taylor, though he did die in office. "Old General Taylor died long ago, walk him along John Carry him along. Old general Taylor died long ago, carry him to his burrying ground." Or so says the shanty. A number of presidents survived assasination attempts; Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Harry Truman among them. All of which puts a dent in the zero theory.
This having been said, if Bush were to buy the farm before November '04, I would have a hard time feeling sad.
Is there an attractive young woman out there, willing to perform a sexual act on him, and then tell Ken Starr? That seems to be the best way to get presidents out of office these days. (I am neither young nor attractive, or I would make the sacrifice.)

I understand the 'Bush Putsch' have already raised a fair few million fundraising for the 'campaign trail'. I guess if US Presidents must buy their way into office, the US Public get what they pay for - well, those with enough $$$$...

Fortunately we have 'caps' on how much political parties can spend on their election campaigns. Mind you, the 'free' media hours favour the major parties.

Best of luck, in politics, you Yanks.

In order to keep on the thread of 'Presidential Assassination', may I remind you of the assassinator of the 50s - MAD Magazine...

Alfred E Nieumann for President!

Aww.. shucks... just heard on NZ Wireless that Pte Jessica's injuries were from a car crash! No worry, trust she gets her 'Purple Heart'. I have no desire to knock the wee lass - from the reports of the time, I have the impression she thought she was going from an office job in the US to another in Iraq.....

Also... on the news.. our National (right) Party have started their Annual Conference. One remit, that looks like it may get passed is to change our "Nuclear-free New Zealand Policy" to allow nuclear-powered vessels into the country. The main thrust of the argument seems to be that it may free up US trade restrictions.....

Aww... Shucks... take me back to CND and "Ban the Bomb" - and the Bush Putsch, under whose cloud it is currently hiding!

Sam

This is definitely your shtick.

Who will be right , pdc , Don Firth or both?

At best grim at worst tragic unless Trump wins.
