17 Jul 03 - 12:02 PM (#985255) Subject: BS: 'Lord, you know their names....' From: Bill D it seems that Pat Robertson, well-known evangelist and part time politician, is SO unhappy with the recent Supreme Court decision overturning the Texas sodomy law, that he is calling for a 21 day period of 'prayer' to "storm the gates of Heaven" and ask God to DO something about those justices who have lost their moral direction. Yes, he did say.."Lord, you know their names" and he also said "lay a heavy hand on them"...(Jay Leno even worked this into his monologue last night...interpreting it much as I do..'he is asking God to take these old guys away for us') (This can be seen online, at CBN.org, if you have any inclination..[Real Player..etc]. look for Janet Parshall in program archives) Yeah...we all know that Pat Robertson babbles on like this constantly, but ain't this a bit extreme? He is specifically asking for direct religious intervention into the law. "We can't do it ourselves, Lord...but you can." The sanctimonious nature of this program (which I chanced on in late-night channel surfing) exceeded almost anything I have seen, so I broke my usual rule not to comment. This man reaches millions of people, and he does a lot of damage. I don't expect anyone to do anything, except become aware how bad it can be..(and I suppose Pat is saying the same thing about MY side of the issue...*grin*) ok....I've had my rant....I'll go back to my threads on music now.. |

17 Jul 03 - 12:20 PM (#985274) Subject: RE: BS: 'Lord, you know their names....' From: Bill D I wonder how Pat will interpret that, then, if those justices live to be 100 and keep voting against him and don't retire?

17 Jul 03 - 12:55 PM (#985301) Subject: RE: BS: 'Lord, you know their names....' From: Rapparee What happens if God takes Pat instead? Did God make a mistake? What happens to Robertson's credibility when God doesn't lay a heavy hand on the Supremes? Just picture it: as the Supremes gather for their annual photo shoot, a light from above shines down and voice says, "Good job on the sodomy thing, dudes and dudettes!" Meanwhile, Pat gets out of this car and is struck by lightning -- or there is a near miss. Can I pray for that? |
