This song was first released in 1949 as a single by Benny Bell. It resurfaced decades later on the Dr. Demento show. Re-popularized when it appeared as track 8 on disc 2 of the Dr. Demento 25th Anniversary Collection CD (at least that's where I first heard it.)

Everyone is out to get my Fanny,
Everybody wants to see my Fanny,
Everybody likes to hold my Fanny,
But she loves no one but me.

Everybody wants to seize my Fanny,
Everybody likes to squeeze my Fanny,
They do everything to please my Fanny,
Still she loves no one but me.

Oh, don't touch my Fanny, please don't ever try;
My little Fanny is reserved for just one guy,

That's why I never let another love light blind me
Anywhere I go you'll always find me
With my little Fanny right behind me
'cause she's so in love with me

Everyone who ever spied my Fanny
Tried to hang around beside my Fanny
Maybe I should go and hide my Fanny,
Or she'll find somebody new

I've seen lots of Fannies in my time,
And frequently their cheeks were close to mine,
But never have I held one so divine
Like the Fanny that belongs to me

We will be married some day next June
and when we go away to spend our honeymoon
I know that everyone is going to miss my Fanny
no one ever could resist my Fanny,
but they wouldn't dare to kiss my Fanny,
'cause she's so in love with me!

note: I discovered recently that "Fanny" is apparently UK slang for female genitalia. In U.S. Slang, fanny is just a funny term for the butt, kind of like "hiney." (Either way, who would name their daughter this?) I'm pretty sure the artist who wrote this was intending the U.S. meaning.

Fanny is a diminutive form of Frances; also FANY, the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. Another one of those unfortuate hijacked words. Of course, nice people wouldn't know about the vulgar connotations, so they wouldn't have a problem with the name. Still, you can imagine the humorous situations with Yanks dating british girls in WWII: "Gee, you have a cute fanny! Ouch!!"

The first time I read this I thought it said "Benny Hill" -- I thought it was a bit near the knuckle, even for him! Shades of Mrs Slocum's pussy ...

(Then I reads it properly, and made the erudite post above.)

Steve Parkes: also known as the Female Auxilliary Nursing Yeomanry
In 1999, the organization was officially renamed the Princess Royal's Volunteer Corps (PRVC), and it is now known as FANY (PRVC).
Good job she is known as the princess royal or we would now have an arm of the services "The Plastic Fannies"

Sorcha, that's why the article called a "fanny pack" is known as a "bum bag" in the UK ("bum" meaning "backside" in English English, and there's another word that's diverged as well :-)

I seem to remember a Ben Elton line: "No wonder there's so many mixed-up men in America, if they've not worked out what a fanny is yet!"

There's an old Blues vaudeville song (originally ??Ma Rainey??) that George Melly sings "I want my Fanny Brown". Also a US hit for Wynonie Harris and recorded by Tammy Wynette. NO sexual innuendo intended of course.

From: Jim Dixon

I WANT MY FANNY BROWN
As recorded by Wynonie Harris, 1948.

Anybody here seen Miss Fanny Brown?
Well, has anybody here seen Miss Fanny Brown?
She ain't so good-lookin' but she lays that lovin' down.

Well, she's forty years old and she ain't young no more.
She's forty years old; she ain't young no more.
But the way she loves you will make you come back for more.

She left this mornin', caught that mornin' train.
She left this mornin', caught that mornin' train.
Well, I wonder if I'll ever see Fanny Brown again.

Hey, mister brakeman, come on back,
Stop that train in the middle of the track.
I want my Fanny Brown. (4x)
Look out!

Well, I cried last night, cried the whole night through.
Yes, cried last night, cried the whole night through.
Fanny Brown is gone and I don't know what to do.

Well, I don't know what went on wrong.
Woke up this mornin', I was all alone.
I want my Fanny Brown. (8x)

Hey, hey, I want, want my Fanny back.
I want to hold her in my arms and listen to her backbone crack.
Yes, I want my Fanny, want my Fanny Brown back.

The fanny song, as we knew it, became popular in folk clubs in our neck of the woods after Tom Brown found an album of, presumably, Benny Bell and gave the words to a trio who used to sing three part harmony. (Can't recall their names now...)

The album, which I borrowed for a short while, also included a song called "Shaving Cream." That was mildly funny too but the rest were songs of their day, trying to be risqué and funny at the same time but not really succeeding. Still, nice to read the lyrics again for old times sake.

Needless to say, we took the song in the British sense....
