More shade from the old apple tree, I think.

My Mum loved this song when she heard it sung at someone's funeral so we included it in her funeral service.

THE OLD RUGGED CROSS

Helen, I really don't think that is what is being asked for. That is the original.

Do you have more clues, Mary V? Haven't found anything. Do you know the singer(s)'s name(s) or any of the words in the song? Found only a few with "In the Shade of the Old" type songs. Most commonly was a song from the late 1890/early 1900 time frame, In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree.

So if you can give us some more clues to work on it.

Hi there...
I found this in a magazine from Renfro Valley Kentucky.
But they only had the title no singer .
I thought it sounded so pretty as I love old gospel songs.
Now I am wondering if maybe ....there is no such song.
Thanks everyone for trying though.

The only thing Google comes up with is a link to this thread.

Wonder if any of the other search engines have anything.

RENFRO VALLEY BUGLE is the name of the local music paper.
Thats where I heard the name of the song.
Thanks for trying everyone....

Mary, welcome to Mudcat. A number of Mudcatters who enjoy and collect gospel have not posted yet, so I'd like to suggest you keep the thread bookmarked in your browser (or join Mudcat and "Trace" it, see FAQ thread at top of thread list).

I have about 5,000 pieces in my collection, text and/or sound, and I don't have it, sorry.

If you find it somewhere else, please be sure to post it here, in this thread, for the rest of us!

~Susan

There's a "Rest In the Shade of the Old Rugged Cross" kickin' around the www.

The song referred to above is by Dick R. Reid, copyright 1971.

There is a song titled "Rest In the Shade" performed by The Soul Seekers (link) but I can't find a recording online to confirm it.

To clarify, the song # was referring to is by Dick R. Reid, not *necessarily* the requested song.

cnd, search YouTube with the line above just as is. A few versions are there, one by the Soul Seekers.

Thanks for that, #. Definitely not the right song. And probably even not the one in the sheet music.
