An early reminder that the Pom's from Oz are appearing at the Broken Token Folk Club next Wednesday, August 6th at the Eagle and Child, Bispham Green, near Parbold.
Tickets are a fiver and can be booked in advance from Angie Bladen 01257 263678 or email four.fools@virgin.net
More details on the website - Broken Token
The Eagle and Child has a great room for singing in and has a large range of "proper" beer. No nitrofizz served here!
Hope to see some of you there.

Cheers
Mark

You have a treat coming your way. Having heard the Poms from Oz on a number of occasions (from living in Queensland), I can recommend them to all lovers of great harmonies. Sorry I can't make it ... bloody long swim!

They're on this afternoon (12.30) at the Cotswold Capers festival in Lechlade. Saw them do a couple of brilliant songs in the singaround at the pub yesterday.

I've just heard from Angie Bladen who runs the Broken Token folk club at the Eagle and Child that the council have stopped us having the Pom's at the pub because there are three of them and are thus falling foul of the good old 2-in-a-bar rule. I gather that this follows complaints that the council received over the noise the rock group at the local beer festival earlier in the year made (nothing to do with the folk club although some of us did provide some music on the Sunday afternoon) and the fact that Angie put the Poms in the local paper to drum up support has come to the attention of the PEL police at the council. No wonder folk music's an underground operation!
On Wednesday night, therefore, you will be able to see myself and Angie do rather more songs than we were expecting to do. We'd still like to see people there of course but be prepared to join the club as members and be signed in etc, etc.

Does anybody know the "rules" of being a member of a club? The council are saying that you need 48 hours notice before you can actually attend as a member but I've heard you can turn up and join straight away without notice. I'd be grateful for any advice on this to pass on to Angie and Ken.

Cheers

Mark

Mark - I think that there was a long thread recently about an "unfriendly" club which has much bumff on this issue.

"Welcome to this club not" is thread.

Thanks John, I've just had a quick look at that thread again but other than mentioning the 48 hour thing it's not a definitive answer, I could do with someone posting something along the lines of "The legal aspect of forming a club with membership and associated rights of members is..." If the council is correct then fair enough but it would help for it to be spelt out in black and white from one of the legal eagles amongst us.

This is SUCH a shame. I'd not seen the Poms until they came to Saddleworth and helped me out with 2 concert spots in the unfortunate absence of John Prentice.

They were brilliant, and we received loads of really positive feedback on them. Hopefully they are coming back to us next year.

What a shame they can't do the club - I'd got them down on my diary dates list as well! Good job I went into Mudcat today!!

This gets better! I've just heard that the landlady has told Ken and Angie that the folk club is no longer welcome in the pub and so the two of them are off to find another venue for tomorrow night. Watch this space!

Breaking news..........The Poms are back on.......Ken and Angie have found another venue.......The Mawdesleys eating house in Mawdesley.... just down the road from the old venue......go to the Eagle and Child and carry on into Mawdesley on the road out to Eccleston and the pub is on the left hand side.....

So to repeat - The Poms from OZ WILL be on tomorrow night in Mawdesley

Who'd be a folk club organiser!!!

Cheers

Thanks to everybody who came along tonight after much phoning around by Ken, Angie and myself. We had a wonderful night with 25 people in a room that held 25 people so it was full! Thanks also to the people who came along and gave us a couple of songs each but biggest thanks go to the 'Poms' for such an entertaining evening after so much messing about over the previous couple of days.
Next month we have Tom and Barbara Brown on Sept 3rd.
Cheers
