Anyone know of any recordings of "Do You Want Your Old Lobby Washed Down" by anyone of note (apart from our own billsables who submitted it awhile ago)? yours, Peter T.

I have a recording by Corkman Jimmy Crowley from many years ago, and I see it's available on his more recent (1998) CD Uncorked [LIVE] (nice title) available from Amazon, where there is an audio clip of the song.

I'd say Jimmy Crowley counts as someone of note, Peter :0)

The version which used to be played on Radio 2 in the UK was by Brendan Shine, who released a large number of whimsical or novelty Irish songs. Brendan Shine would not be regarded as part of the folk scene, but was (possibly still is) a prolific and popular Irish singer.
Quack!

Thanks. For such a famous song, it is interesting how few versions there are of it. yours, Peter T.

Bit late in the day (having been on holiday), but - I've got the Jimmy Crowley CD. Can someone please explain to me what this song is about and why it is so famous?

It is a mixture of social comment, and a euphemism for sexual favours to landlords.
