05 Aug 03 - 08:23 PM (#997531) Subject: RE: BS: A stitch in time From: Amos It is a stitch taken to prevent fraying when you first notice that a seam is wearing out. It saves nmine -- or any other likely number -- because it prevents unraveling of stitches further down the seam so they do not need replacement. The statement is a metaphor for heading trouble off before it multiplies, taking timely action, etc. A |

05 Aug 03 - 10:58 PM (#997610) Subject: RE: BS: A stitch in time From: Stilly River Sage You might get a stitch in your side from laughing so hard. Like a stitch when you're running for too long. |
05 Aug 03 - 10:59 PM (#997611) Subject: RE: BS: A stitch in time From: Amos Actually that is a different definition of the word, meaning a sharp pain in the side from laughing too hard for too long. Nevertheless, if you do laugh your ass off, stitiched will be called for. Please let me know when/if this occurs, as I would like to watch.... A |

05 Aug 03 - 11:57 PM (#997638) Subject: RE: BS: A stitch in time From: katlaughing Thank you, Spaw! I wasn't asking the obvious...thought you all'd know that! Was hoping to unleash some of the famous Mudcat creativity! Of course since time is a human construct, I guess it's really moot, but I quite like the idea of some Cosmic Seamtresses/Tailors busy on some Plane taking stitches in and saving nine of something...perhaps lives of cats? Whatevah! LOL |
06 Aug 03 - 12:08 AM (#997649) Subject: RE: BS: A stitch in time From: Allan C. It is a Zen thing actually. You must be the needle. You must see yourself as the camel as it passes through... Oops! Wrong metaphor. |
06 Aug 03 - 12:33 AM (#997660) Subject: RE: BS: A stitch in time From: Amos Aw, kat, I'm sorry -- I thought your gears were slipping and was trying to be nice about it!! :>)) Actually there is such a thing as taking a stitch in Time, but it has to be self defined. If you try to use someone else's definition it doesn't work. No one has ever been able to explain why this is but, well, there ya go!! A |
