I saw Harriet Bartlett at Holmfirth and then again at Warwick this year, and I'll be going to see her again at Bromyard. I asked around and found out that she'll be 16 this year, at Warwick was only 15. Wow! She's beautiful! Fantastic on the accordion, and a beautiful singer. What's anybody else's thoughts? Nic

I booked her for Holmfirth. Yes she is a brilliant performer and a really lovely person. As an aside she won a "Danny Kyle" (quickly described as a prize for the best people on the open stage stuff) at Celtic Connections. Six were given out of 80 entries.

I am sure she will do well in the future.

And it's great that she's getting recognition, not just for her talent but also because, as Folkiedave says, she (and her family) are nice.

At the Bishops Castle Micaelmas Fair a couple of years ago, I had the great pleasure of spending some time with them in The Six Bells when everything else was rained off. She kept the place occupied from 4.30 pm till geting on for midnight and entranced everybody.

We've got her booked as support for Spiers and Boden at Hope on 6th September. Another great reason for being there! (As mentioned here)

Does anyone know if Harriet has got a CD out yet? I've searched on google but cant find anything as yet. I heard that she's doing a CD soon...if so does anyone know what record label it will be on? Cheers, Nic

Don't think so, yet. Harriet looks at the'cat from time to time so maybe she'll answer the question herself. (Although I think she's probably at Sidmouth at the mo)

Ah, the lovely Harriet Bartlett ... has often been a guest on Sunday Folk on BBC Radio Shropshire, Stoke and BBC Hereford and Worcester.

And will be again - I've no doubt.   How do I know? Simple.

I present and produce the programme and I often invite good performers to play live on the programme. I look forward to Harriet's next appearance! Try Sunday night at 8pm - BBC local radio in the midlands. I'd make one of those blue things - but, sadly, the technology eludes me...

Ah, the lovely Genevieve Tudor!
How nice to see you here.
Make one of those blue things? Did you want to knit a cardigan, or did you mean like this?

Dear Genieveve, you can do those blue things using the "make a link (blue clicky)" button below the "reply to thread" window. Alternatively you can just write the web-page like this < http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/music/folk/folk_diary_01.shtml > Then people can copy everything between < and > and paste it into the search window of their web browser. This page has details of several regular sessions where people may meet up with Harriet - for example The Grove on 21st. However I notice that, yet again, the Breidden session is missing!! So - for those that would like to come to one of the best sing-say-play sessions in the area and (almost certainly) meet Harriet and her Uncles Dave Hunt, Flos Headford, Rees Wesson et al - come to The Breidden Hotel, Middletown, Powys (just over the border on the Shrewsbury-Welshpool road) on the Last Wednesday each month (so, 27th August is the next one) starting around 8.30pm. Contact me for more info/directions at < yorkiebartram@telco4u.net > or phone 01938 570535.
Chris Bartram.

Oh dear - I'll have to take my web page maker to task AGAIN!

Of course, there's often a chance to see Harriet and her "Uncles" (realllly...!) at the Grove at Walcot, near Wellington, Telford on the third Thursday of the month - including August - listen to some wonderful music and song AND get a free meal!

Harriet has just sent out her first newsletter - well, she sent it 5 times actually, but we won't hold that against her...

Hi Everyone!!

This is my first newsletter!! Things have been very busy for me. I'm currently putting the finishing touches to the tracks that are going to go on my debut album. I am going up to Glasgow in October to record the CD, it will be released on the Greentrax Label, and that lovely Mr Phil Cunningham is going to be producing it, which will make it fun to do!!
Hopefully it will all be ready to launch at Celtic Connections January 2004 , where I shall be playing, having been one of the winners last year. I'm told I get to support fantastic people. I'm so excited I can't wait!
The CD has taken a long time to prepare, but I wanted it to be right. Quite a few of my own compositions will also be on the CD - I just hope everybody will like them. I do..or else they wouldn't be on there!!!

Also this month, I've been asked by Rees Wesson to join him on his CD. Rees and I have played together in sessions for many years now. I also joined him in the Boxing Clever Venue at Sidmouth a few years ago, and I've got to say, he's been very instrumental to me moving forward with my music, and one of my many influences - so I will enjoy joining him on his CD.

In the near future my gigs are:-

6th September             Hope Village Hall - Supporting John Spiers and Jon Boden

12 - 14th September    Bromyard Folk Festival

27th September          Centenary Theatre, Wrekin College - Charity Gig to support Hope House.

6th November             Harbury Folk Club, Leamington Spa

Please go to my website for reviews, further gigs, and links etc...

Love Harriet

P.S Remember those G.C.S.E's I told you about? Well I've had my results....I got 1 A (Music), 7 B's and 4 C's and I am dead proud of 'em!!! As they were extremely hard work!! Especially when also working on my CD!! :-)

I think Harriet's definition of many years might be different from most of ours!

Sounds like a good one, though! We should all be looking for it.

Well, Harriet duly did her stuff at the Spiers and Boden gig on Saturday, and a very acomplished set it was too. Her voice is sweet and her stage presence developing all the time.

Len (Dad) says she's after a keyboard now and he's really looking forward to lugging that around with him!

If you get the chance, see her - a star in the making.
