BS: www.selectsmart.com/president/

selectsmart.com/president/ is an interesting internet tool to see how your political positions align with the presidential candidates. I just took the test and got the results - 100% Kucinich (but I don't think he can beat Bush) and 99% Dean (I think he'll be a success).

Here is what the selector is all about:
"The candidates' positions have been determined first by the candidate's actions, then their public votes, followed by their public statements, and whenever possible, special interest group rankings of the candidate have been factored in.
The results page links to information about the candidates including links to their websites, public statements and news reports. We also provide links to the special interest groups mentioned on this page.
Answer the questions below to determine which candidate most closely matches your political views. You are not required to respond to every question. Questions with checkboxes allow multiple responses. Radio button questions allow only one response."

Have fun...

That was fun and I see I am a 100% Kucinichian, with all others trailing by a large margin. I'll have to look him up. Were it that Washington operated on substantive issues concerning the public benefit. . . .

Kucinich, Mosely-Braun, and Dean, in that order. Do they stand a chance? Larouche & Bush at the bottom! What a surprise!

HA! He's my man!

"He's tilting at windmills, and I get the feeling we're a little embarrassed by his unwavering idealism. That's a mistake. It speaks to our lack of character more than it does to him being a bit of a goofball. Like his politics or not, Dennis is OUR guy. And we should get behind him. We should embrace his weirdness. He is US. He is the Cleveland little-guy personified. He's the ultimate underdog who's still willing to march out of step from the national zombified masses."

Now, this makes me feel good. I'll take the test next but I wanted to share this.

Yahoo, Associated Press excerpt:

"...The group plans a $75 million effort to defeat Bush and "elect progressive officials at every level in 2004," targeting 17 key states: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

"The fate of the world depends on the United States, and President Bush is leading us in the wrong direction," (multimillionaire George) Soros said in a written statement. "ACT is an effective way to mobilize civil society, to convince people to go to the polls and vote for candidates who will reassert the values of the greatest open society in the world."

I thought it was a fun and very helpful web site. What a great way to get to the meat of the campaign. Isn't the internet amazing?

Funny that Kucinich came in first for me, because his speaking is like fingernails on a chalkboard to my ears. I had to hit the mute button when I was watching him on CSPAN the other day... he was acting like a lunatic in his mannerisms and the way he was shouting at the camera. ZERO charisma, Dennis. Too bad, since you have a pretty good record.

Anyone else take the test?

Kucinich and Moseley-Brown are seen as radicals by Middle America, and have therefore little chance of getting the nomination, much less being elected President. Dean could succeed, but some of his positions are less than progressive.

It appears to me that we all will have to hold our noses and vote for a Democrat who is actually electable. To me that means Dean or Kerry.

Cheers,
Michael

Oh, it was Dean, Kucinich and then Mosely-Braun (surprise!). I lost track after that, except for being happy about racking up 0% for one criminal (La Rouche), while being disturbed about getting 14% for another criminal (Bush).

Must have been that one question about neither agreeing nor disagreeing with ALL of the NAACP's positions and the other one about not agreeing with the extremes on gun control either.

michaelr, you are starting to sound like a Republican propagandist! Come on! Mosley Braun and Kucinich are not radicals by anyone's measure but Rush Limbaugh's and the neocons.

The state media in both Illinois and Ohio take these two candidates very seriously. Mosley Braun's candidacy is being championed by many NOW supporters, many in the Black Congressional Caucus, many in the progressive movement for peace and justice. Those people are all mainstream, not raving lunatics from the fringe.

Or are you suggesting that the only candidates that Americans will take seriously are fascist WASP males?

There are bigots who don't take Lieberman seriously because he is a Jew. But there is nothing "Middle American" or Midwestern about that point of view.

Or are you suggesting that America's bigots and backward looking navel gazers are only found in the Midwest and the South?

Wait--don't tell me--you live on one of the coasts, right?

Now, Iz real disappointed in you Catters. Lyndon LaRouche deserves better than *zeros*, for God's sake. Hey, was he not entertaining? I mean he could be talkin' about the gold standard one minute and without even crackin' a smile accuse Nancy Reagan of leading the largest drug cartel in the world.... in the next! Man, you folks is some tough graders! I liked ol' Lyndon! Maybe if you folks had had your business in the same town (2 blocks) from Lyndon's you'd have a higher appreciation> Maybe not....

As fir the quiz? It was set up for Dennis or Howard to win. It's all in the wording of the questions.

With that said, Kucinich: 100%, Dean: 99%, Green: 100%....

BTW, the real "liberals" are the Wolfowitz's, Pearle's, Rove's, Rices and Bush's of gthe world and the real "conservatives" are the Kucinich's and Dean's. We need to turn the multi-million dollar PR campaign back on those who are Hell bent on changing the world into their nice little "new world order".

"Mosley Braun and Kucinich are not radicals by anyone's measure but Rush Limbaugh's and the neocons." No, I don't think that's accurate. Millions of people listen to that gasbag Limbaugh's radio show and go "Yeah! What he said!"

Hey, I think they're both very idealistic, well-meaning politicians of a kind we could use more of. I just don't believe the Dems will nominate them, or that they would be elected.

Once more: We have to do whatever it takes to get Bush out. If that means holding our noses and voting for Dean or Kerry, so be it. It's got to be done!

Cheers,
Michael

Actually, if you change the "select only candidates who" by unchecking the two boxes that have already been checked off for you (but not the third one, why is that?), and then answer those NAACP, League of Conservation Voters & ACLU questions as someone you are aligned with, or whatever, it changes the outcome a bit.

I decided my second time through (when no Green candidate came up for me, but a Green candidate won't register if you don't deselect those two boxes before you do the test), that I would answer that way, even though I'm not real crazy about the League of Conservation Voters (much too conservative for my tastes) and the NAACP (much too conservative and reactionary for my tastes) I did check that the candidate I supported would have to support them, or whatever, the Bush score dropped, the Green option showed up, and several other interesting things happened.

But the 0% for La Rouche didn't change. Or the Constitution Party candidate either!
