Can anyone help? I have the first verse to a song about fishermen - don't know the title or who wrote it. Have searched digi can't find it here are the lyrics I have If any one can supply the rest I would be grateful
Ever since he was a very youg boy
Something drew him down to the docks
He loved to see the fish the fleet brough in
He loved to hear the fishermen talk
It must be the colour of the sea they say
That makes a man a little insane
As soon as he was big enough
He begged every skipper to take him where the big seas break

Ah,ah,ah the ocean is a mean mean mother
Ah,ah,ah makes you wonder why the fishermen love her

I've tried most of the other phrases and come up empty. Including the phrases from the Chorus! Any idea when the song was, Guest?

...and I tried "fish the fleet" and "colour of the sea"/"insane" and "begged every skipper" without success.

Well, if you come up with anything else, please post. I'm sure someone else might recognize it, now that a Joe-Elf has change the Subject line for others to get the gist of what you're looking for.

I found these lyrics at Steve & Kristi Nebel's web site and tidied up the formatting a bit. I checked them against their recording, and they're identical except for one word—see the footnote.

I didn't see any songwriting credit.

ON FISHERMEN
As sung by Steve & Kristi Nebel on "Bohemian Outback" (2005)

1. Ever since he was a very young boy
Something drew him down to the docks.
He loved to see the fish that the fleet brought in.
He loved to hear the fishermen talk.
He'd heard there was something in the call of the sea
That makes a man a little insane,
Because as soon as he was big enough, he begged every skipper
To take him where the big seas break.

CHORUS: Ah, ah ah, the ocean is a mean, mean mother.
Ah, ah ah, it makes you wonder why the fishermen love her.
I'd call them brave men; they'd tell you, "Save it!
We're just trying to make our ends meet."
I'd call them brave men; they'd tell you, "Save it!
We're just trying to make our ends meet."

2. Nobody makes a man go to sea.
To go fishing is any man's choice.
There are many men who've heard the sound of cabin glass breaking,
Who've heard the sea drowning their voice.
The fisherman may tell you what makes him go fishing:
Some'll say it's camaraderie,
For the danger of the ocean's an everyday thing
To the men who go down to the sea. CHORUS

3. Some men like to ride a big purse seiner.
They'll watch the nets pull the fish tight.
Other men like to drag* their skates in the water.
They love to feel the big fish fight.
Copper River fishermen run thirty-foot boats.
They'll run 'er through an all-night gale.
He fishes alone, and when he gets back home,
He could tell you how those ocean winds wail. CHORUS

[* Drag in the posted text; run in the recording.]
