BS: Just for today - Good thoughts- Safe & Sound!

Subject: BS: Just for today - Good thoughts, please
From: katlaughing

My son is trekking across Nebraska, as I type, with all that he owns towed in a UHAUL trailer behind his truck, with his two kitties beside him in the cab, in their carriers.

The past year has depleted him of a lot of reserves. He is over-tired, stressed, and anxious to get this move over with to WY. He fell asleep while driving. He's okay and has had a short nap. Please, send him any good thoughts, energies, etc. that you are able or inclined. He and I both appreciate it, very much. His name is Colin. The kitties are Morticia and Izzy (Isabella.) I try to keep a visualisation going of him and his sister in WY saying hello, hugging, and unpacking the cats, etc.

Thanks for any help (please keep this on the Mudcat, only.)

luv...kat

Having just made that trek coming from Washington State back to Kansas, Colin has my sympathy and good thoughts all the way. Nebraska is the second boringest state to drive across (the first is Montana) simply because there is so much of it, and so much is flat. Tell him to be sure and stop every couple of hours to get out and stretch and get a fresh cup of coffee (or a cold drink--it's HOT there this time of year!) Best wishes for the rest of his trip; and no more falling asleep driving!

one way to enhance your trip thru the cornhusker state
is to stop at the first rest stop on either end, and
get a tape (maybe they have it in cd form now too) that
talks and sings to you about the history of the area
you are passing thru. it is organized by mile markers
or exit numbers, and is done by a guy who was my prof.
in colleg, who taught folklore, and is very well in-
formed about the history of nebraska. He tells of the
covered wagons going across the oregon trail, where you
can still see wagon ruts, how the Chimney rock used to
be used as a land mark to guide the wagon trains, where
indian tribes had their huinting grounds, buffalo herds,
etc. he sings and plays the banjo too, Sweet Betsy from
Pike, etc. and there are sound effects of oxen pulling
wagons through river crossings, and more. The tape can
be purchased, or you can return it at the other end of
the sate for a refund. This takes the boredom out of
the ride, and helps you realize that there are interesting
things to learn about the "Beef State" .
I spent 20 years there, but never did bother to grow up.
I drove across NE and many other states this summer, and
did not get bored, just hot. hope his air conditioner is working!

Hey, Kat:

I feel for you, but all will be well. Five years ago, just before I remarried, my 23 year old son took off for Wisconsin in my Saturn, which I gave to him. He had driven on the highway a grand total of once, and that only about twenty miles away (and he got in an accident..) It was a great act of courage for him to leave Connecticut, and drive across country, going through Chicago and then up to Wisconsin. I was very concerned for him, but I just put him in prayer and asked for traveling mercies. he made it with no problems, and I know that your son will, too.

Prayers for Traveling Mercies, coming up!

Jerry

Isn't this the sort of journey that inevitably leads to a "little town" in the middle of the Twilight Zone? Hope he enjoys the adventure. I too see him introducing the kitties to his sister and their new home.
Relax, Mom. It will be fine.

THANKS!!! He should be rolling in there about midnight or so, Wyoming time. I just got back from turning pages/emceeing at my brother's first classical concert in 6/7 years. Now that THAT is out of the way, I can focus a bit better and be more positive, esp. with the help of such good friends as you all!

Hahaha! Very phunny!

Sorry, bet, I figured I was stewing enough and, heavens, you'd already done so much!Sides that, now you're only four hours from him, I know you can go straighten him out in person and, at the moment, he IS yours!**bg**

Sorcha...he'd kill me if ya did...he kept reminding me his phone is on ROAMING at the mo' and he doesn't know I've even shared that number! THAT phone is going to have to be used very sparingly for the next month or so, until he gets squared away. Thanks for the offer, I will pass it on.

I love my beautiful Pennsylvania hills. But, five years ago, I learned to drive. I found myself wishing I lived in the flat, boring, midwest, where steep hills with twisty turny roads do not exist.
I'm glad your son made it, and Fitz and Musetta, my kitties, send best wishes to Morticia and Isabella.

Hey, I want in on this! The rest of my week is moving, moving, moving. We already lost a big window and a $30k scanner at work, plus my own house closed 2 1/2 weeks late (and it was a very close thing at that). Now I have to entrust my stuff to the movers, then make my own trek with a howling cat in the passenger seat and get a fridge bought and a bunch of stuff painted before they arrive. *whew*

I HOPE I have used up all the bad luck coming, but if not, I may need some of that leftover goodwill! Gotta go pack up the computer, but I'm just going to assume ya'll are sending good thoughts :)

Have the kittys, kid, and kar ...recovered after their "arduous odysey" plowing dust-trails through the footsteps of pioneers who came before?
