Swinton Folk Festival

In case anyone thought we had forgot - we haven't! With one thing and another we are running late and have had to cut down a little but it is certainly quality if not quantity:-)

Taking place all on one day this year - Saturday 25 October at the White Lion, Swinton, Manchester. Evening Concert with Fred Wedlock, Anthony John Clarke and Phil Hare. Afternoon concert featuring, amongst others, Th' Antiques roadshow, The Barflies, Hands in Pockets and Staff Folk. Tickets, costing £6 and £3 respectively are strictly limited so get some while they are hot! Only available from the Whitle Lion on Monday nights or from Ged and Sue on 01942 811527.

The infamous all day singaround and session will commence at 12 noon in the White Lion bar and is free of charge. Everyone welcome to sing, dance, recite, juggle hedgehogs or just listen. Free of charge. Anyone want to volunteer for a stint running it?

Any requests for another singaround or gathering on the Friday night as well btw? I would be happy to arrange the room if anyone wants to run an event.

Cheers and see loads of you there:0

I was about to offer the services of Navy Cut (previously on the bill at Swinton Folk Festival and now back in action!) to run the Friday night singaround.

Then I checked my diary, and realised that 4 of our number will be appearing at the Pinewoods festival in New York state that weekend, with the Shellback Chorus.

Sorry all. Can we do next year please?

Silly Raggy didn't read the later parts of Dave's message- I'm sure there'll be demand for a pre-festival singaround again.

(Ta Raggy, yes, Antonia said she's left a couple of things of mine in your safe keeping.)

From: Joan from Wigan

I'm hoping to be there for the singaround, but transport is too uncertain to take a chance on booking concert tickets (last year the last train back to Wigan was cancelled without notice, just as well I was offered a lift back, otherwise I'd have had to spend the night on Swinton railway station).

Just a teensy weensy criticism - there's no mention of the festival on your new folk club website (or even of forthcoming guests at the club). I can see that your ticket sales are going well anyway (although there might just be one left for Spot if he's lucky). But it does seem strange not to use your website, as that's where people will naturally look for information... (I would do a blue clicky link, but there's no point at the moment.)

Don't take the criticism the wrong way - you know I support you and everything you do, even if I can't get to the club as often as I'd like. And you will have noticed that I've put a link to this thread in the Folkal Point Links for the festival. But just a tiny hint - maybe you could have a word in the ear of the webmaster?

Joan

Thanks Joan - Not taken the wrong way at all and thanks for the constructive critisism:-)

Spot the webmaster is well aware of the situation but we have difficulty getting the information on who is on from anywhere but Folkal Point! Where do you get the information from? Daft as it sounds me and Spot never have a clue who is going to be on until we read your magazine!

Good refresh anyway...;-)

Subject: RE: Swinton Folk Festival
From: Joan from Wigan

In the past, usually either Ged or Spot have given me the info, and I've filled in the gaps from the info in Folk North West. But there's a couple of gaps in FNW's info that I was hoping would be filled out from your new website! Try Ged for the guests missing from my listings (i.e. 20th Oct & 17th Nov). In fact I'll email him myself while I think on.

But a festival webpage still wouldn't go amiss. Last year someone put a copy of the flyer on your old website - that would be useful, as it can be printed off. I haven't had any flyers for my club this year - if I could print something off from the website, it would save you the postage (how's that for constructive?).

Best wishes,
Joan

Joan....The website will be updated this Thursday Oct 9th with all relevant information. I now have a program from D the G. The folk club dates will also be updated at the same time.

Everything you say is always supportive which is why we love you so much.

Caz, I'm looking forward to seeing you too. I haven't volunteered to host, only because of not being absolutely sure of transport. But if I'm there and I'm asked... (that's happened a few times at Swinton) ...all things are possible.
