The first verse of this song is

I will rock my heart till the walls come down
(three times)
All around, all around my spirit

Does anyone know the rest and who wrote it?

Anne

"I Will Rock My Heart till the Walls Come Down" is used as part of the "Litany of Resistance" at All Hallows Church, Leeds, UK. You might try e-mailing them at info@allhallowsleeds.org.uk.

I heard a great rendition of this at Miskin by sung by Rosie and Lynne.

I haven't been able to find full lyrics, nor even any detail of authorship through Google.

I just did another search and I found several instances of this song being used by various activist groups in the UK. Sometimes it is called simply I WILL ROCK MY HEART. No lyrics, tune, author, or recordings, however.

As I heard it sung, the first verse was:

I will rock my heart till the walls come down
I will rock my heart till the walls come down
I will rock my heart till the walls come down
All around, all around my spirit
All around, all around my spirit
Subsequent verses are identical except for "rock my heart" bring replaced by another action, e.g.:

I will stand my ground till the walls .....

I have e-mailed All Hallows. See if there is a reply.

Dear Snuffy
Thank you very much for going hunting for the writer of Rock my Heart. The thing is, we would very much like to record it but we'd rather seek the writer's permission before we do... gotta go, I'm off to the folk club in Netley now (straight from work on no grub - sob!) Best rgds Rosie

We may have success. I have had a reply from All Hallows stating that the real title is "All around my spirit" and is "composed by Kathy Lowe arranged by Caroline Parrott". Looks like it could be this Kathy Lowe.

Just heard back from Kathy Lowe in New Hampshire. She is indeed the author, and the song is on her 1998 CD No Separation.

Rosie has offered to send me the words for her version, and I'll post them here when I get them

I've received this from Rosie Marshall, who says: "The song we know as 'Rock My Heart' was written by Kathy Lowe who has her own title for it; we have added words because it's too lovely to be a short chant. We find it is best sung by women only, so we've chucked our fellow shantymen out of it…".. It's not clear which bits are Kathy's original and which have been added.

All Around My Spirit

I will rock my heart till the walls come down x3
All around, all around my spirit x2

I will sing my song….

I will speak my truth….

I will live my life….

I will dream my dream….

I will ease your pain….

I will stand my ground….

I will work for peace….

I will rock my heart….

Apparently you can see/hear a rendition of the song here if you click on "A Manchester Jewish socialist sings a beautiful song", but I can't make it work on my home or work PCs.

I have now received No Separation and have listened to Kathy's version of her song.

The first four verses as listed above (up to "live my life")are what Kathy Lowe sings; the remainder (from "dream my dream" onwards) have been added later
