(And the site is worth bookmarking for the other songs listed there.) It was recorded by Jack Hylton and His Orchestra, with vocalist Leslie Sarony, in 1930. I transcribed this ("+" represents a yodeling syllable.): I will tell you all a story of a fine Alpine milkman. How they covered him with glory with his fine Alpine milk can. Ev'rybody just adored him for his yodel loud and clear. Ev'rybody would applaud him any time that he came near. For he captivates the ladies with his ++++++++++++++++. And with them he plays Hades with his +++++++++++++++++. Every time he meets a flapper, he gives her a little thrill. He takes her out to supper and he always pays the bill, with his +++++++++. One day he had some whiskey with his +++++++++++++++ It made him over-frisky with his ++++++++++++++ It was slippery and he went sliding down the mountainside. He landed on the bottom and it greatly hurt his pride, and his +++++++++. The Britt Brothers recorded ALPINE MILKMAN YODEL in 1933. It was apparently written by Leslie Sarong. (SWISS YODEL was on the other side.) Elton Britt also recorded THE ALPINE MILKMAN; it appeared on "Yodel Songs", RCA (Victor) LPM-1288 (1956). Montana Slim, a.k.a. Wilf Carter, recorded THE ALPINE MILKMAN in 1955. It appears on the album "The Dynamite Trail: The Decca Years", originally released as Decca LP D-4092 (1960), and re-released as Bear Family CD BCD 15507 (1990). There is a sound sample at Yahoo! Shopping > Music. As far as it goes, the lyrics are identical to those given above. I also found evidence of recordings by Randy Erwin, Ronald Sachs & His Orchestra, Clarkson Rose, and Kenny Roberts. |

05 Sep 03 - 08:20 PM (#1013647) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hey Mr. Postman (with yodeling) From: Louie Roy Thanks Jim Dixon for setting me straight on who recorded the song Swiss yodel and if you'd asked me if I'd ever heard of the Jack Hylton Band and the singer Leslie Sarony I'd have said no,but appartently this is the group that I heard on the radio in the 1930s and their recording of the Swiss Yodeler.I've given Montana Slim the credit for 70 years.Anyway while herding cattle on a 1000 acre ranch in Idaho my Dad owned I blasted the universe with my Swiss yodeling and at that time I did a very good job,but now I've lost the high pitch and no longer try to reach those Swiss peaks.Since today is my 58 th wedding anniversary Maybe you can refresh my memory with the words to the Swiss Yodeler as a treasured gift.Anyway thanks a bunch if you can't.Louie Roy |
