Bob Copper

I spoke to Jill Copper (Dudley) yesterday about Bob's condition.

Bob was totally wiped when he returned to the UK, the long period in the hospital, inability to handle proper food for a good while, and just the stresses of the trip.

But he is slowly but steadily recovering, and his heart appears to be strong and healthy. Jill is launching a new career as a 24 hour nurse and practicing on Bob to hone her great skills.

I would imagine that any future performing trips are a completely unknown question at this point, but Bob is a bit of a ham (sorry Bob!) and surely loves to talk about his Sussex tradition, so -- hey! you never know.

I took the liberty of sending best wishes on behalf of all of Bob's friends over here.

John Copper was also very much not well when he was here. He is back working but there is apparently no clear diagnosis at this time, except it seems likely that a flare-up of gout is at least part of it.

The ABC (aussie) did a briliant interview with Bob a while ago (22/2/2003) which was replayed in may 2003

The site
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/music/mshow/default.htm

had a transcript of the interview, but the pages seem to be offline at the moment.

The Music Show on the Radio National subsite, if you want to drill down from the top.

I think
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/music/mshow/s796446.htm
was the page, but they may have taken it off line, it seems.

As it was Copyright by the ABC, they may have a tape of it to sell, they often do of past programs, but I don't have the details - they do have a way for you to request such tapes.

Accoording to Jon and Jill (when I emailed Bob they answered for him) he's doing well.
I wasn't aware that John was also ailing

Thanks for the concern. Bob is doing extremely well although not back in his own home yet. As Jerry said, he was totally wiped out after a spell in hospital in Brooklyn and the tiring journey home to England but a combination of good care from nurse Copper Dudley and his own amazing willpower is bringing him slowly back. He's been heard running through a few songs in his bedroom "just to see if I can still pitch 'em" so the signs are very good!

John meanwhile makes steady (if uncomfortable) progress and is back to work. As anyone who has been unfortunate enough to have been struck by gout will tell you, it's an extremely painful condition, and entirely debilitating especially when it affects, as it did John, both knees at the same time.

Thanks for the kind concern...I'll pass messages on to Bob.
He'll be back!
