No one replied to the previous thread with the words. |

But if you go back from there to the lyrics home page there is an e-mail contact which promises to try and help. You could try that. Mick |
12 Sep 03 - 06:38 PM (#1017863) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Love Entered The Iron Door' From: GUEST It'a a traditional desendent of a broadside ballad of about 1630, 'constant wife (also known as 'Locks and Bolts do hinder), ZN3202, in the broadside ballad index at www.erols.com/olsonw. It's obviously descended from some older, but unknown tale, poem, or song. There are several 17th century versions known, and are crossed referenced in the broadside ballad index. At the later Scottish "Earl Brand" it becomes a Child ballad. |

15 Sep 03 - 06:49 PM (#1019528) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Love Entered The Iron Door' From: Art Thieme I have missed a few lines at the start. Here is what I have. As sung by HANK SNOW: ...me because I am poor, And let me place you in a cell, Behind the cold iron door. My love for you will never never die, My flight/fight, I will carry it through, It is written that where there's a will there's a way, And some day the sky will be blue, I prayed to the maker in heaven tonight, And I know you've been praying for me, He guides every step to the end of the trail, Where love meets and I set you free. He tunneled his way 'neath the cold dreary ground, Each night he made his way, A race against time, that door he must find, Before her dark wedding day, At last a faint weary cry he heard, His fight for love, it was o'er, Thank God I have reached you my darling tonight, I crossed the cold iron door. One mighty blast, and behold, and at last The big gate swung far aside, Imprisoned there like some lonely bird, I found my future bride, Although they took you away from my arms, You've been punished for loving the poor, Thank God, my love, for you at last, Has entered the cold iron door. 15 Sep 03 - 09:22 PM (#1019612) Subject: Lyr Add: LOVE ENTERED THE IRON DOOR (Hank Snow) From: Frank Maher They tell me in their letter, sweetheart, that we can never wed. To make you my bride would hurt their pride. You must marry an earl instead. Their riches, they say, they never will share with me because I am poor, And that they placed you in a cell, behind the cold iron door. My love for you will never, never die. My fight, I will carry it through. It is written that where there's a will there's a way, and some day the sky will be blue. I pray to the maker in heaven each night, and I know you've been praying for me, That he guides every step to the end of the trail, where love meets and I set you free. He tunneled his way 'neath the cold dreary ground. Each night he made his way, A race against time that soon he must find, before her dark wedding day. At last, a faint weary cry he heard. His fight for love, it was o'er. Thank god, I have reached you, my darling, tonight. I've struck the cold iron door. One mighty blast, and behold, and at last, the big gate swung far aside. Imprisoned there like some lonely bird, I found my future bride. Although they took you away from my arms, you’ve been punished for loving the poor. Thank god, my love for you at last has entered the cold iron door. |

Did the website mislead me by playing the wrong song? If so, it's not the first time I've encountered a mistake like that. |
