Hi--

I'm going to be in Edinburgh in late October, and I wondered if anyone had recommendations for good websites to find out what's going on that week in the way of traditional music.

thanks,
Kim

Hi Kim.
This site Edinburgh Gig Guide gives you all the Folk listings on a weekly basis.
The Royal Oak and Sandy Bells are a couple of sure venues for Traditional Music.
Hope this helps.
Have a great Trip.

Hi JD,

Many thanks! I remember Sandy Bells from the late 70's -- enticing, but not a place a single woman felt comfortable in alone. At least, I didn't. Maybe it's changed by now. Thanks much for the references--

best,
Kim

You could always see ME at the Royal Oak - I'll be performing October 26th. http://www.albafolk.co.uk/folkclubs/weefolk/

I had a drink in Sandy Bell's a few weeks ago and was made to feel quite welcome by the lady behind the bar - but then it was in the afternoon, almost empty, no music, and just Cathal MacConnell dropping in for a quick (a very quick!) pint.

Edinburgh and Lothians branch of the Traditional Music Scotland Association have a monthly session in the Oxford bar, Young Street (between Charlotte Square and Castle Street) Always the 4th Monday of the month so the October one will be on the 27th, from 8p.m. Very relaxed and informal and safe for lone females! Singers and instrumentalists and listeners welcome.

Oh and I just got the listings for Edinburgh Folk Club's new season: at the Pleasance on Weds evenings. They've got some real legends of Scottish Folk on in late October, the MacCalmans on the 22nd (sadly without Derek Moffat any more), and Archie Fisher on the 29th. Hope to see you at any of the above.

I have been going to Edinburgh frequently for years.(five times this year)
Try the Ensign Ewart on the Royal Mile just below the castle or the Royal Oak in Infirmary Street just off the Bridges. I think the Royal Oak has its own web site.
All the best in Edinburgh

Ah yes, the Ensign Ewart. Would you believe that when I lived in Edinburgh 20 years ago, I lived about five stories up directly over the Ensign Ewart? (University post-grad housing).

Thanks for the tips --
