Could someone au fait with jazz chords help me out with this tricky little number. Ive tried jazz archives and olga with no success, and I've failed to work it out myself- I cant hear all those subleties.

Hey moo youre the man! Do you know I thought that there were lots of maj7 and min7 chords in this tune. I'll go and think about those 9s and 11s and sus11s!!!

Now all you need to do is learn how to play like Amos Garrett. I recently went to his web site and wound up buying a cd. Unlike many comerce sites, Amos has you print out an order form, fill it out, and send it in with your check (or cheque, as the case may be). The kcker is that he sends the cd with a personal snapshot of himself doing this or that as well as a hand tied fishing fly that he personally made. By the way, his solo in Maria's version of that song is my all time favorite guitar solo.

I'm not sure Sean Palmer intended for this to be available but right in the middle of the page Moo linked is the following:
Guitar Solo: (Amos Garrett)
Verse and chorus

Folks familiar with XML and HTML will see that the tab is commented out so that it doesn't display when the page is viewed in a browser. Perhaps it will be useful to someone here.

Thanks Mark!

Folks can also view that in their browser on the linked page by going to "view source". A wonderful piece of playing!

Once again many thanks,

The chords to the verse, on the Maria Muldaur recording, at least, are a half step lower than the ones at the link, but the bridge chords are the the same. It gives it a nice sounding half step key change and effectively shakes off all the people who are trying to play along by ear, even if they made it through the Gb section:-)

Verse

Eb / Ab Db9 / Eb / Ab Db9 /
Eb / Ab Db9 / Gb Cb9 / F6 Bb11 / and repeat

Chorus

Chorus:
F G9 / C11 D11 / F G9 / C11 D11
F G9 / C11 D11 / A11 B11 / back to verse

M.Ted, What do you play for a transition to the chorus? Do you just play a Bb11 followed by an F? And what about the fade at the end? Do you play a B11 or a Bb11?

At the bottom of the page Moo linked, we see:
How Mr. Nichtern gave us it (i.e. the definitive chords)
Intro:
G11 C11 D11 / A11 B11 /

Verse:
E / A D9 / E / A D9 /
E / A D9 / G C9 / A6 B11 / and repeat

Chorus:
F G9 / C11 D11 / F G9 / C11 D11
F G9 / C11 D11 / A11 B11 / back to verse

Fade:
/ B11 (extra bar after last verse) /
showing the verse in E major and the chorus starting on an F chord but winding up on a B11, just like the verse. Now I'll have to go back and listen to the recording. It's been a while since I listened to it and I'll look forward to the pleasure.

Sorry--I must me in my "Mr. Dumbness" mode--

The chords I posted for the chorus are not right, I should have moved them down a half step, as well(the chords are the same, relatively, to the Official David Nichturn chords, but just down a half step):

E F#9/B11 C#11/E F#9/B 11 C# 11
/E F#9/B 11 C#11/Ab11 Bb11/ back to verse

I know that one generally avoids using both sharps and flats in the same tune, but the song changes key at the end there--
