SUNNYCAMP DIRECTIONS

I will be gone all next week, and would like to know that everyone knows how to get there....since some people, guilt guilt guilt, haven't actually paid yet, I might not have your address..so I will put the directions here.

First of all, if you want to eat, try to get me a check. Mail it to Mary Garvey, 1408 201st #6, Ocean Park, Washington 98640. $50 for adult, $35 for children for weekend. Take $17 off if you will only stay one night.

So far we will be eating rice, beans, oats and barley until some more checks come in (just joking..)

First note: THIS IS OCEAN PARK, NOT OCEAN SHORES. Big difference. We are just north of Astoria, Oregon. Not on Grays Harbor. Get to Long Beach, Washington, via Raymond probably from Seattle, or Astoria via Oregon. If the weather is really bad, you might want to take I-5 to Longview, cross bridge, go to Astoria, cross bridge again and shoot up to Long Beach. From Long Beach, go through town, go 10 more miles to Ocean Park. Stop at stop light. Go straight 1.1 more mile...you will see a sign that says Ocean Park Retreat Center on your left. It is supposedly illuminated but I'll try to have extra lights etc. Go into camp, and follow sign to Ocean View Lodge..winds up a little hill. There you are. Come any time after around 4 p.m...earlier the better since it is getting dark earlier...if you stop at the light, you will see Jack's on your left. If you go more than 1.5 miles and don't find it, go back to Jack's and ask someone..but it is straight throught the light 1.1 miles. Potluck Friday night so stop at Jack's if you need some goodies..flashlights etc.

I can be reached through Saturday at 360-665-4999, or 360-642-2031 during the day. My email is mgarvey@pacifier.com. This is going to be a great bunch of people for sure... If you don't reach me or decide at the last minute you can come, try to leave a message but by all means just show up.

This is payback for me waiting till the last minute at all these camps, I know... mg

Hi all...I am getting ready to leave town tomorrow for a week..just wanted to make sure that no one goes to the place we had camp at last year, and which was advertised on this year's early flyers and notices. It will not be at Nahcotta on Willapa Bay, but in Ocean Park (NOT OCEAN SHORES) at the Ocean Park Retreat Center..directions above post.

A couple more things...you will want flashlights..it gets quite dark here, although we will be self-contained so you won't ever need to leave the lodge...

If you can make it here in the daylight, it would be good. Nothing to worry about otherwise, but you do want to watch out for deer on the road and also drive even in daylight with headlights on....people have a culture here of passing cars frequently..just be aware and slow down if you need to let someone in...

If you can't reach me, just show up, but try and leave me a message on voice mail...I will be checking for messages.

more info:

they reinstated clam season for the first time in about a year. At least this weekend. I don't know yet about next weekend. You will need a license if you want to go clamming..not sure you can do it from the camp but somewhere close for sure. You can get a license at Jack's Store nearby.

Bring flashlights, potluck food for Friday. Earplugs too if you are a light sleeper, but I am going to try to get a cabin for light sleepers. The rest of us will be in a lodge situation. Let me know if there are particular workshops you want to have or put on.

Also, did I mention the roller skates...I somehow got volunteered to fix up roller skates for a camp for abused children...so the good news is there will be roller skating at some point..might as well use them.....the better news is that I am going to release you (well, at least 2 people) from any dishwashing or toilet cleaning if y ou help with these roller skates....we can do them while a workshop goes on in the same room. mg

Didn't used to need a permit to dig clams. Things must have changed (I have unfortunately not lived in Washington for many years now, and on my visits haven't gone to dig clams!)

Sounds like a great setup! Mary, were you able to look at that photo? I forgot to take it down, but I need to soon. It's here. I posted it over in the help pages once when the list crashed when we were in Mudchat.

I see some faces in photo I recognize but it is a bit fuzzy..I'll have to look again later...

Also, if people are coming to SC, please bring harvest fruits and vegetables if you have them to spare from your gardens...we'll have a harvest festival...I've been picking huckleberries now and then..

Also, about recycling..there are things easy to recycle..cardboard, aluminum cans..and things hard..compost etc. Please bring containers if you want to set up recycling stations here and plan on bringing stuff back with you.

Mary,
As it turns out I will be in Idaho for the weekend and wont make the gathering. I do, however, offer someting else. Sat. Oct 25th, Frank Jones, aka Frank of Toledo, will be doing a small house concert at my home on the banks of the Columbia west of Longview. I invite you and all of the other mudcat folks in this part of the country to join us. You can contact me at lwinterm@pacifier.com

Thanks and have a ball this weekend,

Lane

Just wanted to make it clear that it probably won't be open before 4. I think Joanne is going to open it up at 4..I probably won't be there till 5. I will be going to take some food in tomorrow and tell them that anyone who comes in and asks for the key is OK...I think they will give you a key if you should get there earlier..we are in Ocean View Lodge.   If you want to see the cranberry station wehre I work, it is 2907 Pioneer Road..just about 1.5 miles north of Long Beach on the main road..turn right on Pioneer go about 1 mile..you'll see the station and a cranberry museum..I might give you a few things to carry up there...I won't be able to visit much then because I am a Very Important Person.....or at least Very Busy...

OK..it is tomorrow..so I'll just refresh this a time or two more to make sure people know where it is. If you haven't registered, you can still come...there should be plenty of room...

Bring any excess veges or fruits you have around..I have skimped on buying them in case people bring a carload of zuchinnis or whatever. The place should be open all day. If not, and you get there before 4 or so, just go to the office and ask for it to be opened up.   I'll probably be there around 5:30..someone local should be there around 4. There are a few restaurants around..incluidng the Ark, which is in Nahcotta, a few miles east from the light in Ocean Park. (turn north at Willapa Bay).

Someone asked what street the cam was on..looks lke around 283rd. 1.1 mile stsraight through the intersection at Ocean Park.

See you tomorrow. I'll try to keep my cell phone on. 360-743-0310. mg

today is the day. If you need to call me, my work number s 360-642-2031. I won't be there before 5ish but hopefully Joanne will be there at 4. The place should be open by 4..if not, just go to the office and ask them to open it. Feel free to start coffee, arrange groceries etc. There is an extra cabin (beachcomber) for the very quiet sleepers. Other rooms in the lodge wil probably be male, female, coed (I guess noisy sleepers will have to go in here) and families with children. There is a loft that children might want to take over.

Hey, is there going to be a blow by blow account of what is happening there? Someone could log on to Paltalk, open a room and broadcast the whole event via the web by just leaving a mic on there. That way we, who have to miss out, can enjoy some of the events like workshops or circles. We could even do a Paltalk open mic.

Okay, maybe next time. ;)
