Sorry Eliza if you are perousing this but A series of profile raising concerts promoting the evolution of new acoustic and traditional music throughout the UK. Eliza, Kathryn, Ian, John have all been around for a number of years and I would hardly refer to them as new acoustic acts. Excellent as they all are this looks like a series of concerts in small scale venues for established artists where are the new acts they they are wanting us to believe are appearing?

smallpiper: think you're being a bit unfair. The concerts are described as "profile-raising". The artists may be familiar to you and me and a handful of folkies but they have not made any impact on the general public, and they are all young(ish)....so "new" seems a reasonable word to use to me.

But I don't really think having concerts in places that are really only going to attract folkies is not really going to raise thier profile. I agree that they have not had the exposure to the General Public and being young(ish) do deserve more exposure (but look at all the tallented musicians who also deserve exposure). Anyway the point that I was trying to elicit (not very well) is why are these established artists (and they are established) not helping to promote up and coming people - real newbies - at these concerts. Just how hard would it be for Eliza to be the headline act with two or three new acts supposting her?

I am not having a go at the artists but rather the promoters who are putting these concerts on.

I take your point SP, but to be fair it does say "ELIZA CARTHY with Eleanor Waterson plus Sarah Hayes AND LOCAL SUPPORT ACT" so I think the intention is there, at least with the Eliza concerts , to give new acts an opportunity to impress.
It may be a case of early (and brief) publicity not telling the full story. Lets hope that nearer the time, more detailed publicity confirms your hopes that new acts are given some additional exposure. It would seem an ideal opportunity to do so.

I recon I know who is behind this and as such I am very synical about their intentions - no disrespect to the artists intended any way why should I be fair? Where's it written that I have to be fair? ;-)

I know of who you speak SP (nudge nudge ;-). I have just tried to look at the Beverly Fest website as referred to in the first post, and it looks like a dogs breakfast, is it my PC or are others having the same problem?

Interesting. It looks a complete mess on Galeon (equivalent Mozilla or Netscape) and on MS Internet Exploder, but OK on Konqueror (another browser with different engine)

Anywayzzz...
Come on, what's the conspiracy theory behind all this. Who's running it and what's alleged the vested interet?
