Loughstock II (Portaferry 2004)

02 Oct 03 - 07:30 AM (#1027844)
Subject: Loughstock II (Portaferry 2004) anyone?
From: Fibula Mattock

Hi folks,

Following this years success, interest has been shown in holding another Loughstock in 2004 in Portaferry, Co. Down, N.Ireland.

What with the Eurogathering in Hull9 just a few months after, I can understand if people are reluctant to commit to a Norn Ireland gathering, but if there's enough interest I'm happy to go along with it.

For those who couldn't make it, the 2003 gathering was held in February and a fine time was had by all in Fiddlers, Dumigans and Barholm. This year, with a bit more notice, I might even try to get a bit of dancin' thrown together.
Suggested dates: 30st January - 1st February 2004, or 6th - 8th February 2004 (both around about my birthday, which is my main excuse for going home).

Please register your interest in this thread and we'll see if we can make it happen. If so, I'll put a real and proper website with all the details.
There's some photos to check out the 2003 happenings, and read a thread about what went on.

Having had such a good time this year I would definately like to get back in 2004.Hopefully I will be able to do a bit more than just the weekend and see some of the country instead of just the pubs.

Excellent, that will soften the blow of turning 45 on the 29th.

45, good God, doesn't that sound grown-up? Does this wisdom thing that everyone bangs on about get delivered about then as well, I wonder?

Strewth, Terri, didn't know you were to wind'ard of me. I spent a very happy 44th at LoughStock 1 presenting an icing workshop, so be prepared. I still have warm gooeys for Guru for being so thoughtful to come armed with full bakery requisites, and in tribute to her, I have retired from cake baking at the pinnacle of my career.

Sounds OK to me Andy,Greg is all yours!!!

There are various room combinations (see earlier link) All the same price, Do we go for a big dorm, or a small room?. Don't really want double beds!!

No problem Andy-what room do we ask for? One for 4 or three or a dorm that sleeps more? I've sent the hostel an e-mail, no reply yet.

Subject: RE: Loughstock II (Portaferry 2004)
From: MudGuard

Letty, are you for or against mixed dorms?

Most independant hostels try not to mix males with females in dorms, but if there are only beds in a dorm for the opposite gender you will get in there...

Youth hostels (An Oige/YHANI) are more strict with separating...

As I have not stayed in the hostel in Portaferry, I do not know their policy.

the hostel was wonderful. They had a couple of single rooms and a couple of double rooms. The large rooms with multiple single beds were also nice. They tried to put same sexes in the rooms however I think they asked preferences of the people staying there, I think we had single sex rooms last year. But if enough of us are going we will probably be hiring the entire hostel!!!

I would like to go again, & Raven enjoyed it last year so he may come again.

If Paul goes it would be separately as we have parted, but I doubt if he will.

I must admit that I'm not terribly worried about this, as last year I noticed we had been double booked with some sheep.

You fool Andy-you have to smuggle them in. You tell them they are hippies dressed in sheepskin coats. And maybe for some of you the dorms started off as single sex, but there were doors opening and closing. Not in our dorm though...We had Alan wwwwwww all to ourselves, me and skip(he he!)

I don't think it will be a probelm Letty you should have some choice available.

Letty - it'd be great to meet you! I missed the Eurogathering, so I have to make up for it in Portaferry.

I wonder can get more Irish Catters up this time - there's plenty of advance warning!
