12 Oct 03 - 03:38 PM (#1034201) Subject: Fiddle Tunes on line From: KT Hey folks! There is a great site, Pub Session Tunes, http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/pub-session-tunes/index.htm which I like to use for learning new tunes. It's a great site for learning new tunes because you can use the sheet music or play along by ear or BOTH. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend other sites that have the same capabilities. Thanks in advance! KT |

13 Oct 03 - 04:47 AM (#1034431) Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: GUEST There is also: http://www.thesession.org and http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/music/abc/FindTune.html Sorry. I don't know how to make links as I am not very highly evolved, belonging with the amoeba when it comes to technology. The latter URL is particularly fab. It has virtually every version of every tune in every key - an amazing resource! |

I must try it with instrument. There is a few jigs I play, so funny to practise :-) thank you ... thank you :-) |

I am so glad to have my computer up and running again to be able to utilize these sites. A virtual session is a great way to learn a tune when there isn't a live one somewhere!! I'll check these out!! KT |

14 Oct 03 - 12:28 PM (#1035421) Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: Sorcha One thing that many people don't know about JC's is that once you get the sheet music gif up, you can click on "Return tune in other format" and click on the MIDI, then minimize the sound window while you watch/play along with the sheet music. Handy, that. |

16 Oct 03 - 05:27 PM (#1037035) Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: dermod in salisbury Sadly, KT's recommended site now appears to have stopped providing an open service, but offers instead information on buying the CD version. The BBC's site remains a great free resource for would be session musicians. |
17 Oct 03 - 07:47 PM (#1037538) Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: GUEST,KT Actually, Dermod, the first several tunes in each section (on the Pub Session Tunes site) are still available to online users. One of the things I appreciate about the Pub Session Site is that the tunes are played at a moderate speed, which is a great help to those who play by ear. I am considering purchasing the CD, which plays each tune in three different speeds, but I'm not sure if it will work on my MAC. Anyone out there familiar with the CD? |
08 Aug 05 - 11:15 PM (#1538129) Subject: RE: Fiddle Tunes on line From: katlaughing Anyone still using the BBC Virtual Session listed above? I used to, on our old computer, no problem. Now, on our over a year old PC, I have installed the Flash player they recommend and it still doesn't work. On their main page it says to click on the picture above to play along and there is no picture! The Flash player is supposed to work with Mozilla and I've checked my settings...everything looks okay and the Flash thing says it is installed. So...is it me or is the BBC thing messed up? Thanks! kat |
