She thought it was by Danny Doyle, about Australia, and featured a digiriedo (SP?) as background. I have searched for this song for years and came up dry. ( T&S playlists, Danny Doyle recordings, etc.) It's not "Far Away in Australia" DW says it was a faster tune than that. Anyone know of such? O'Meara |

Three's a recording by the House Band which is a group that has been played on the Thistle and Shamrock. It also has a didgeridoo sound at the beginning. (I never could find a credit for the actual instrument on the album, so I don't know if it's a real sound or simulated.). It's not really a fast song, although it might go a bit faster than Far Away in Australia. It was written by Hugh McDonald, and there are apparently a lot of recordings of it. (Other Mudcat threads too.) The House Band version sounded very striking to me the first time I heard it (on another radio show), so much so, that I immediately bought the album. |

There are thousands of Australian songs so saying that it was about Australia doesn't give us much to go on. Thanks Helen |

DW doesn't recall much more about it. (Hmmm - I know everything about the song except the artist, the title, the lyrics and the tune.)I'll definetly check out Diamantina Drover and the House Band, though. Thanks. O'Meara |

09 Jun 09 - 06:26 AM (#2652058) Subject: RE: Mystery song -Australia From: GUEST,zappaluv There is a song "Where the Blarney Roses Grow" by Danny Doyle from the album "The Highwayman" featuring Steve Cooney on Didge or sister Geraldine's rendition of Eric Bogle's "Shelter" featuring didge by Joe Gaiya on their album "Emmigrant Eyes"? The later is available on iTunes. |
