Gone: Lindisfarne

The following was posted to uk.music.folk yesterday:

"Lindisfarne are to split at the end of their current UK tour.

Ray Laidlaw announced on BBC Radio Newcastle this morning that the
Concert at Newcastle Opera House on November 1st would be the band's
last before they move on to pastures new.

See the official website at www.lindisfarne.co.uk for further details."

I was a big fan years ago but I think they've been trading on their reputations for a long time. It's probably past time to move on and I wish them well.

I hardly think this classifies as an 'obit' thread...

bands come and bands go....

Bummer. I guess that's not good news for their gig on 17th May 2004 at Tudor Folk Club.

Caught them for the first time ever at the Astor Theatre, Deal during the summer - they sounded great and were hugely entertaining. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of them though - great bands have a habit of reforming for 'just one last tour'......

I wouldn't be at all suprised to see a few "Bogus-farne" tribute bands spring up. It would be fun to belt out "Clear White Light", "Fog on the Tyne" and "Mr. Dreamseller" again. It's been a few years since I played them.

They are good players and good blokes who have been meeting up again to do a few gigs from time to time for years. I won't be surprised if they play together again. I have wondered what they are like without their main singer and writer Alan Hull, who died a few years back. I wish them well.

Well very sorry to hear that. Seen them live 3 times in the last 5 years or so and always a very enjoyable experience: the last time was at Sidmouth this year. Hopefully the songs will live on, and those members who want to continue making music will do so.

Will Acoustic Lindisfarne be continuing or is this literally 'the end'?

Someone who Seemed To Know said on uk.music.folk that acoustic Lindisfarne are continuing. If so, come and see them at Tudor Folk Club 17th May next year!

Well we went to see them at Salford Lowry Quays Theatre last night. Pretty much a full house and I really enjoyed it. They played the old ones and quite a few from the latest album. They did say it was their last tour...

Just heard from Ray Laidlaw - they will be doing the acoustic tour in the spring, and then it's finito for the whole shebang. So come and see 'em at Tudor Folk and bid your fond farewells...
