Is there any information about this song available? I can conjecture a lot but I'd appreciate something specific.

Like which King and which colonies?

Thanks in advance.

Don

Bruce O evidently has some more information on his site... back to the 17th century he says - which means into the 1600's -

probably written during the commonwealth/protectorate - because otherwise why "when we lived under the king"

which narrows the King down to James 1st and 6th or Charles I

You'll find rather more in song info: Jolly Rogues of Lynn

I always assumed it was the American colonies! How egocentric of me!!
