The way the Corries do it would be great - but any chords are better than none! :-) Cheers |

I hope it's of some use. Dark Loch na Garr (Lachin Y Gair) A-(G)way ye gay (D)landscapes, ye (Em)garden of (G)roses! In (C)you let the (G)minions of (Am)luxury (D)rove;(D7) Re-(G)store me the (D)rocks, where the (Em)snowflake re-(G)poses, Though (C)still they are (G)sacred to (D)freedom and (G)love. 31 Oct 03 - 08:51 PM (#1045580) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Dark Lochnagar - Corries From: Q (Frank Staplin) This thread made me curious as to which of the verses are sung by various groups. I guess no one has the stamina to sing all five. Guest Griff goes with 1, 2, 3 and 5, while the Corries use 1, 2, 4 and 5. The lyrics site ingeb has only 1, 2 and 5. Does anyone sing about the summit above the crater- Cac Carn Beag (Little Shit Cairn)? |
01 Nov 03 - 05:01 PM (#1045957) Subject: Chords Add: DARK LOCHNAGAR (from The Corries) From: GUEST,Iain Higgins Thanks guys, griff the chords you gave me don't fit the corries version (i have the live version tho...) but thanks all the same! Still if anyone comes across the chords for the corries version (im gonna tab it myself when i get a chance) if you could post it that would be good. Cheers p.s. if anyones interested, my tab of the corries version starts of something like this capo 1st fret A A-way ye gay landscapes, ye garden of roses! D A D E In you let the minions of luxury rove; A Re-store me the rocks, where the snowflake re-poses, D A Though still they are sacred to freedom and love. A Yet, Cale-donia, be-loved are thy mountains, A E round their white summits though elements war; A Though cataracts foam `stead of smooth-flowing fountains, A I sigh for the valley of dark Loch na Garr A Ah! there my young footsteps in infancy wander`d, D A D E my cap was the bonnet, my cloak was the plaid. A On chieftains long perished my memory ponder`d, D A D E as daily I strode through the pine-cover`d glade. A I sought not my home till the day`s dying glory, etc..... Anyway, I am writing this out at uni from memory (my tab is at home) so no doubt i have muddled up a few chords here and there.... but you can probably figure it out from here yourself :) I will post the full, correct version soon. |
01 Nov 03 - 05:12 PM (#1045960) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Dark Lochnagar - Corries From: GUEST,Boab Sorry if I seem a wet blanket, but --in spite of being a long-time fan of the Corries-- I would bury their version of Byron's "Dark Lochnagar" as deeply as possible. I always, when I hear it, imagine a yodelling cowboy just itching to get his spot in! And I use all five verses when I sing it; Christmas -Ne-erday in Auld Scotland will be the next time. The fourth verse is seldom sung for the simple reason that it marks the author as having Jacobite connections--a "no-no" in bigoted company. |

08 Nov 03 - 08:32 PM (#1050352) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Dark Lochnagar - Corries From: Susanne (skw) I've got the book - trouble is, I can't read music. Maybe I could fax ther page to someone who can? Under 'Chords used in this song' there are four grids, five squares across and three down. The first is headed Bb and has an encircled 1 on the last line (presumably representing a string) of the first row, none in the second and a 2 and 3 on the 4th and 5th lines respectively in the third row. If that's any good to anyone I'm quite willing to describe the rest ... |
09 Nov 03 - 12:06 AM (#1050486) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Dark Lochnagar - Corries From: GUEST,Jack Hi Susanne, "Bb" describes a chord that you play on the guitar (it means "B flat") - so really all that is needed is the words to the songs with those chord descriptions where the appropriate place in the song is. i.e. A-(Bb)way ye gay landscapes, ye garden of roses! In (Eb)you let the (Bb)minions of (Eb)luxury (F)rove; alternatively written; (Bb) A-way ye gay landscapes, ye garden of roses! (Eb) (Bb) (Eb) (F) In you let the minions of luxury rove; in any case the chord shows where the guitarist should change chords relative to the lyrics being played. does that help? If the lyrics in the book have these chord symbols written with them, than a copy of that posted would i imagine be all that is required. Jack |
