31 Oct 03 - 11:43 AM (#1045325) Subject: BS: Subversion from Threat Matrix From: EBarnacle Last night, I caught Threat Matrix on ABC. The underlying assumptions are terrifying. Most notable was "We are the good guys so anything we do is for your benefit and right." This goes with "You didn't need those rights, anyway." The philosophy of the show is that being right means you do not have to follow any rules because history will justify your actions. This is a popular show, aired during "The Children's Hour." Is the the message we wish for our culture? I have already sent a letter of protest to ABC and to Disney about this show. For a so called liberal medium, this show is about as far to the Right as it is possible to go. |
31 Oct 03 - 02:30 PM (#1045431) Subject: RE: BS: Subversion from Threat Matrix From: Edain I saw the last half of last nights episode. The message I got out of it was 'We're the US so if we want to torture people and refuse them any legal standing then thats fine because we're doing it for the good of the people, even if the torturee dies because of it.' And they're promoting this is a -good- attitude to take.... Surely that would mean the US is sinking to depths it has invaded other countries for inhabiting, but hold on, it's okay for the US to do it because they are them and thus right. Does that stink to anyone else? |
31 Oct 03 - 04:07 PM (#1045479) Subject: RE: BS: Subversion from Threat Matrix From: McGrath of Harlow Threat Matrix Jesus weeps! Do you think the people who cook up stuff like that are actually intentionally trying to generate the kind of threat they are exploiting? |

31 Oct 03 - 05:23 PM (#1045507) Subject: RE: BS: Subversion from Threat Matrix From: katlaughing Have you all read the viewer's comments? Most of them seem to have loved it. From what you all have posted, I'd be inclined to agree with you rather then the idjits who've posted otherwise. I'd post there if I really felt strongly about it. I chose not to watch it, so I don't feel qulaified to do so. It is also good to send a letter to the network and also any national advertisers who sponsor the show. That's where the read power comes into play, like it or not. Thanks for alerting us to this, EBarnacle. kat |

That show, and JAG are house organs for the Bush administration. Just as an aside, Mahershalalhashbaz, the name of one of the characters, means "Makes haste to the spoil." |
01 Nov 03 - 05:01 PM (#1045958) Subject: RE: BS: Subversion from Threat Matrix From: GUEST McGrath, that should read "Jesus, sweeps". The West Wing is looking pretty right wing Republican too. And don't even get me going on the political tilt of the "current affairs" and talk show "news" programs on the major networks, especially the major cable networks like MSNBC, etc. All radical right, foaming at the mouth, eyes bulging out of heads--and those are just the female talking heads. All they ever talk about is Bush, Bush, Bush. Or who is going to run against Bush, Bush, Bush. Or how Bush, Bush, Bush is doing in the polls. Or how much money Bush, Bush, Bush raised this week. But mostly, it is just more of the same old "Bush administration officials said...unidentified senior White House sources said...Bush, Bush, Bush [add Clinton hating cliche] Bush, Bush, Bush [add Clinton hating cliche] Mainstream media...the largest and loudest echo chamber ever created by stupid white men. |
