Hi!

So happy for your interest in our music!!

I have gotten some information on some of our old recordings and may be getting rights back on them. Though I would LOVE to re-release old recordings, I simply don't have the funds as yet. I do still have the old masters from the Vetco recordings, but not the rights unfortunately. I have the rights to the kid's album (Room To Grow) however, and rights to most of the songs on Black & White Rainbows CD that was released shortly after Dave's death.

If you know of a way I could ger funding for re-release, please let me know. It bothers me that the music isn't heard by more people, though it has actually been recorded by a number of folks (Charlie King, John McCutcheon, Jim McCutcheon, Sally Rogers and more).

If you'd like to reach me, my email is ginakaysellshomes at yahoo DOT com.

By the way my name is different due to remarriage and my career in real estate.

Have a great day!

UPDATE:

My nephew has mad skillz in the recording studio and has offered to re-master the old masters. I have rights to the kids albums and perhaps that will be the first one to be re-released. I don't foresee this as an immediate thing however, will keep you all posted.

I went to a small benefit concert in Dayton OH in a church, I think, around 1986/87. I recall John McCutcheon played Devil Take the Farmer and and Saturday Night Uptown among others. After the concert I bought a cassette tape of Black and White Rainbows. Still one of my all time favorite tapes. The tape still plays, but I have just about worn it out. I'd love to new remastered copy. At the time I think there was a hope that Black and White Rainbows could be produced as a musical. I still think it would be a good one. --Greg Dawson

I never heard Dave live, but the used tapes I managed to locate really hit home for me. He was a great talent!!

About the time I found his music, especially one song just blew my socks off.--I think it was called:

"In Wyandotte County"

"In Wyandotte County the black maples grow,
When they move thier branches it makes the wind blow..."

Just great writing. --- I'm unable to pick and sing now, but that was one I was all set to learn. And I really think I'd've done it justice.

Kay, it is Amazing finding you at Mudcat.

Norm Whitman, host of WYSO 91.3 FM Yellow Springs, OH Detours played a long medley of Dave Gordon songs off of his copy of 'Black and White Rainbows' this past weekend and mentioned it was a rare and hard to find recording. I loved what I heard and would love to get a copy someday.

Actually that tune is called Corduroy Road. My husband (dec) and I used to perform that song. I heard Dave Gordon live on several occasions, as we lived near Dayton, Oh, where he performed many times. I have several of his albums. Great songwriter.

Hi all,

Well I haven't been able to get the rights to most of the albums yet, but am working on getting the Black and White Rainbows (with a few extra songs) charted out and preparing stage direction to make it into a play.

Who knows when this will be, as I am working 14 hour days!

At any rate, keep lovin' the music. There are some albums available on Amazon.com so good luck! I have B&WR made into MP3's now so that's good. We'll see what happens and what the fees are for any of this. Will update you - and if you want to go to Facebook, I have created a page "Dave Gordon Retrospective and Reissue Project" if you'd like to "like" it and put comments there as well.

Thanks for all you love,

Kay Gordon (Gina Kay Landis)

Kay....Kay....KAY!! I'm so very pleased to locate this site, though I don't see any recent activity, I still had to write. I feel as though we are old friends! My husband and I were married in 1980, and I'm thinking we had a couple Dave Gordon cassettes recorded by a friend, way back then. The album with "Wyandotte Co" and the ballad about Riley McCann, Gertrude,Sarah Jane and Henry have been bringing smiles to the faces in our home for over three decades. Dave was a tremendous talent, without a doubt, one of my all time favorites. Thank you for your efforts to preserve and share this one of a kind wordsmith and musician. An old post indicated you were hampered by financial constraints. May I suggest a "Go Fund Me" page? People use them for everything from medical bills, fund raising for sports teams and in place of typical "showers" for weddings and babies. Just a thought! God bless you and yours, thanks again.

Hello,

I loved finding this conversation about the great Dave Gordon here on Mudcat. Dave and Kay, were great favorites in the Dayton, Oh area.

I just wanted to put the word out that on July 26th at 1pm eastern time, I'll be playing a live concert with Dave, Kay and the band Watershed (Rick Wagner and Marvin Thordsen) from a live concert they did in the summer of 1981. It will be aired during the time slot of The Dear Green Place, and it's my honor to feature this wonderful moment in time from 39 years ago.

There is a lovely story that goes along with this broadcast. The concert was held in Kelly Hall, on the campus of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH. In those days WYSO recorded a lot of live concerts for replay on the station, and this concert was indeed recorded by WYSO's Chuck Ganzert and replayed later that evening on the Nightclub of the Air program.

In the audience that evening in 1981 was Kevin Bourne, who rushed to his home after the show, to record the show he had just watched on his cassette deck. During the ensuing years, Kevin played the cassettes once or twice a year, enjoying re-living the great music that happened on that night. But recently, Kevin delivered those tapes to WYSO - and we recorded them for this broadcast. We thank Kevin for sharing.

Kevin also did a lovely interview with Gina (Kay Gordon) Landis, that begins the broadcast.

We invite you all to listen to this special broadcast on WYSO at 91.3 fm or online at our website at wyso.org, or other radio apps. It will be broadcast only one time. July 26, 2020 1pm eastern time.

Hello all,
I was just reading past posts about WYSO airing the 1981 concert by Dave Gordon and Watershed last July. I need to tell you that there is access to that show, on WYSO.org, on my page all the time.

Just go to: https://www.wyso.org/arts-and-culture/2020-08-11/listen-dave-gordon-and-watershed-live-at-kelly-hall-1981

It also draws attention to the living, breathing hub of folk and bluegrass music that Dayton used to be, and how WYSO was certainly part of that phenomenon. Now, we don't haul our equipment out to local nite spots....but Juliet Fromholt's Wednesday show, Kaleidoscope (in non-Covid times) brings in live bands to play live on our air, sometimes 3 a night! I look forward to the time when I can have live celtic bands on my show, The Dear Green Place, as well. Make it so. xox
