Lyr Req: Mr. Spider (Little Body Rinctum)

I've been searching for a song which appeared in the Steven Seagal movie 'Fire Down Below' (1997). The song was performed during the movie by musician/actor Levon Helm with his banjo. On the closing credits the song is listed as "Mr. Spider (Little Body Rinctum)". It's listed as traditional so the author is unknown. The song does not appear on the official movie soundtrack album. My grandmother used to sing a similar song that she called "Little Potta Rinctum". The lyrics were slightly different but it was essentially the same song. I've been unable to find anything about this song despite years of research. I'm interested in everything there is to know about this song - origin, history, lyrics to different versions, etc. The lyrics to my grandmother's version had some of same lyrics as the traditional song "Froggie Went A Courtin'". Here are the lyrics of her song as I remember them:

Where shall the wedding supper be? Little Potta Rinctum Kinbo
Way down yonder in the hollow tree, Little Potta Rinctum Kinbo
Kingbo Nero Captain Kingbo, Little Potta Rinctum Kinbo
Buminicle Suminicle Little Potta Rinctum, Rinctum Oh Mr. Kinbo

What shall the wedding supper be? Little Potta Rinctum Kinbo
Tadpole soup and a wiggle tail tea, Little Potta Rinctum Kinbo
Kingbo Nero Captain Kingbo, Little Potta Rinctum Kinbo
Buminicle Suminicle Little Potta Rinctum, Rinctum Oh Mr. Kinbo

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks so much!

I, too, have searched for this song for years. It's interesting that there are so many variations. My grandmother sang a version she called "Lattibone Rigdum." She said she learned it growing up in rural Mississippi. It sounded something like this (again, I'm approximating with the lyrics):

Where shall the wedding supper be? Way down yonder in the hollow tree.
Kymo, rigdum, rigdum, rigdum, lattibone kymo.
Kymo hero captain makiro kymo.
Rigdum, rigdum, rigdum, rigdum lattibone kymo.
Buminickle suminickle lattibone rigdum rigdum lattibone kymo.

What shall the wedding supper be? [something] soup and [something] tea.
Kymo, rigdum, rigdum, rigdum, lattibone kymo.
Kymo hero captain makiro kymo.
Rigdum, rigdum, rigdum, rigdum lattibone kymo.
Buminickle suminickle lattibone rigdum rigdum lattibone kymo.

If the author of this thread is still around, I'd be interested to know where and when his grandmother learned the song. Any other information would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm on a very similar search. My great-grandmother was born in western Alabama then moved to Oklahoma (Indian Territory at the time), and she used to sing another version. She did not include any of the traditional "Froggie Went-a-Courtin" lyrics as some do, but I think all these songs are related.

Kymo naro gilto karo
Kymo naro gilto
Stringtum diddybo la to the rinctum
Stringtum body mitta kymo

Hope this helps.

Froggie Went a courtin'..I learned the "uh huh" version. My sister (6yrs younger) learned the "crambo" line ending (same town/school)
At gs camp, however, we had the girls sing one with a "ringtum" thing.

What will the wedding supper be?
rintum body mitchy cambo
Fried mosquito and a roasted flea..
ringtum body mitchy cambo

Kemo dearo down to cairo,
kemo dearo cairo
Straddle-addle-addle boba laddle boba lingtum
ringtum body mitchy cambo

My grandmother, who was from Tenneseee (but moved to Idaho at a young age) used to sing a song she said her mother used to sing to her. I've been curious about it for many years. It went something like this:

Little black bug came hopping home rigdom bob a little kayro fell in the well and broke his back bone rigdom bob a little kayro

I'm in the nayro captain kayro I'm in the nayro cairo rigdom rigdom bob a lotta rigdom rigdom bob a little kayro

There may have been more verses, I don't remember. The meter seems to match that of what is described in this thread. I had no idea it was derived from Froggy Went a-Courting, but it makes sense. Thanks to all of you who have shared.

This is the version I was taught from my mom and all of our family used to sing it when we would go up to Indiana.

Froggy went a courtin and he did ride
Inktum bodamitcha cambo
A derringer dagger by his side
Inktum bodamitcha cambo
Hida hero down to cairo, Hida hero to cairo
Stradda-ladda-ladda-bobba-ladda-bobba-Inktum
Inktum-bodamitcha cambo

Where will the wedding supper be
Inktum bodamitcha cambo
Way down yonder in a holler tree
Inktum bodamitcha cambo
Hida hero down to cairo, Hida hero to cairo
Stradda-ladda-ladda-bobba-ladda-bobba-Inktum
Inktum-bodamitcha cambo

First one there was Mrs. Drake
"
She got ate by a big black snake
"
"
"
Second one there was a big black bug
"
On his back was a whiskey jug
"
"
"
What will the wedding supper be
"
Fried mosquitoes and a side of fleas
"
"

I learned this form school chums in California.
They all sand it the same way. 1986
Later I learned it in a class that sand old CN Rail songs and things like that.

The "Uh Hu" version has always felt like a cop out.

The version I learned was.

Froggy went a courtin and he did ride

Rinkum Bobby Mitch A Cambo

Keemo Kaimo Dominic A Rhym-O

I'm the originator of this thread. My grandmother grew up in rural West Tennessee and she couldn't remember where she first learned the song as a child but she thought in was in school.

Thanks for all the responses. It's kind of like a lot of old blues and folk songs in that there seem to be dozens of variations and it's almost impossible to trace it back to where it originated. Very interesting stuff indeed.

@Melissa
The version you posted is nearly identical to the one we learned. Where was the GS camp? I'm wondering where mine originated. Just curious.

Have changed the thread title back to the original, Guest, otherwise it becomes confusing to search threads. If you post again (hope you do)could you just add a message to the body of the text - or better still, become a member, then you can 'personal message' (pm) people, directly!

my grandmother also used to sing me a variation of this song. what i remember sounded like this.

kiminero captain kero kiminero cairo
bone ji rigdum [something, something, something]

i was very young the last time i heard it, so i probably have it all wrong, but i thought it was so funny when my grandma would sing it to me. i don't remember there being any english lyrics to her version, just jibberish with a cadence.

I sang that song in Gibbs grade school in Canton, Ohio 50 years ago. I love that song!
