Northumbrian Music Nights

Things have been getting a bit slack at our music nights lately and it'd be really nice to get a bit more support from performers and audience alike. We're not all that isolated here in Allendale: its near Hexham as if you didn't know and we operate on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. Its only £1 entry and this goes towards putting on professional gigs as often as we can and paying for bloody expensive advertising. Be nice to see you!

Glynn, have you sent this invitation to the Northumbrian Piper's list too? There must be quite o few of them within visiting distance.

Glyn: could you be a little more specific geographically?

Good luck,

If I get back to visit Bardon Mill and Errington Reagh Pottery I will be shure to stop in. One of the Original brothers at the Pottery was in the Northumbrian pipe organization.
THere was a show with Johnny Handle I missed by one night when i stayed at the Middle of Briton hotel ( is that the right name) in Haltwistle. At least I got to play with Greycap in his gang down in the Harogate area. I will try to come find you if I get over again.
                                  All the best , Guy

Hey Glynn---anything doing in the pub-on-the-hill-top on the week run-up to Christmas? And tell my favourite left-handed guitar exponent and dear old Pal Terry Conway that it's damn high time we were having a blather. Just say you heard from "Scotch Bob"!!

Thanks for the messages. Music nights are in the Kings Head in Allendale's market Square on the 2nd and 4th fridays of the month starting at about 8.30pm. Allendale Town is around 12miles South of Hexham, Northumberland, in the North Pennines. The Music Nights aren't just for pipers though some do like to perform, but we welcome all sorts of musicians and singers. It is mostly traditional stuff but other styles are perfectly OK. The upstairs room at the pub is rather nice with an open fire, a stage and decent ale and whisky.

Thanks for the clarification Glyn.

I was under the impression that your nights were entirely music rather than music and song.

It's not impossible to come from Stockport via Allendale when we visit family in Durham and will certainly do that.

Assuming that there will be plenty of pipers I will leave my pipes and just bring my voice. :0)

Best Wishes to all at The King's Head.

Glynn ---does this mean that there will be a session on Boxing night? I'm hoping----this will be my only viable date....

Boxing Day is when the pipers all climb up the wild hills of Wannies - the Wannies Yomp!
Wish I could be there, but I'll send my friend Helen instead!

I always had a yen to go see the burning tar barrels being paraded in Allendale, New Years Day, but the "pull-o'-the-heart" for Scotland aye won the day..

swampy of course you can, there's probably a fair walk when you get off but I'm sure it will be worth it if not for the sake of the ..(I'm sure it was Eric Burdon who said that)and remember beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.

Glynn I think I'll try and get to Allendale I'm sure Phil Murray owes me a pint.

sorry, no session on Boxing night. Pipers are not always present but are always welcomed as is any instrumentalist or singer. As for the No.7 bus passenger.... I shouldn't bother, there'll not be enough street lights round here for you!

Bad news I'm afraid, well, it is for the few who have supported this fine venue lately. Music at the Kings Head here in Allendale (thats near Hexham in Northumberland) is now finished and gone. I suppose everything has its day but I feel really miserable about it. Maybe Andy Morgan and myself could be persuaded to play a few tunes down in the bar but it won't be the same.

Bad, bad news indeed, Glynn! Why?? Where's Terry Conway singing these days? Jeeze!--and my Daughter has been toying with the idea of a move from Hexham to Allendale. I had visions of enjoyable folk nights atthe Kings! Dammit---can't you put things in reverse?
